    "Climbing the Greasy Pole"

    Did you know that in the UK, there are various examples of both vertical and horizontal, “Climbing the greasy pole,” games dating back to at least the 1850’s?  In this week’s special programme celebrating Saint Lucia’s Nobel Laureate Festival, Delia’s guest is Mr Cornelius Rene, an Ophthalmic Surgeon based at the world leading and teaching hospital, Addenbrooke, in Cambridge, England.  His journey from Saint Lucia, to being the UK’s first Black Consultant Oculoplastic Surgeon is discussed, with examples of his challenges, as he explains how his chosen metaphor resonates with his life and career.

    'Follow the Energy' - Vanessa Walters

    Delia talks to author, mentor, and writer, Vanessa Walters. Vanessa chose the phrase, “Follow the energy”, because it represents a point in her life where she felt like she could disappear. She was a new mom, working in a new country and she felt she was disconnected to her writing. She was teaching Zumba, feeling her writing was just, ‘good’. Despite such adversity, Nicola’s demonstrated strength culminates in the (2024) release of her autobiographical book, ‘Victory Is My Name’. Her accomplishments, both personally and professionally, are nothing short of victorious.
