Ever heard a joke and wondered, “Did That Really Happen?”
My name’s Niall Mackay, host of A Vietnam Podcast and a comedian... long before I ever started comedy, when I heard comedians tell the craziest, funniest stories I would always wonder just that. And if I got a chance to meet them after the show I would always ask “Did That Really Happen?” … and 9 times out of 10 the answer was “Yes!”
But the difference between sharing a story with friends and telling it on stage is a comedian’s ability to take those moments and craft them into a well worked joke. In each episode of this podcast I’ll talk to comedians from around the world, play you one of their jokes, then ask them, “Did That Really Happen?
Thomas O'Neil, the 2021 runner up in the Saigon heats of the Vietnam Comedy Competition. He is a magician and comedian, with his unique blend of dead pan and in depth story telling a unique journey that captivates audiences.
Listen to his joke and find out... Did that really happen?

Can’t recommend highly enough

I’ve met Niall and heard him perform in Saigon, and I can vouch that he’s the nicest and funniest guy.

This podcast is a must listen and I only wish I had discovered in before I moved to Saigon myself. His content perfectly captures all the amazing energy and stories that make the city such an incredible place to live. I’m especially partial to the stories that bring listeners into the city’s different subcultures and scenes, such as the one with Pasteur Street’s head of sales.

Keep up the fantastic work Niall, I can’t wait for more

Great podcast for an insight into life in Saigon. Everyone has their own different stories but are connected by their love for the city.

Great listen!

This podcast is great for someone considering moving to Saigon, someone who already lives there and wants a little reminder of why it’s so great, or someone, like me, who has left but misses it every day. The stories are wonderful, and I love the balance of expats and local Vietnamese interviews. I especially enjoy the few questions Niall asks everyone he interviews to add some consistency to the show. Looking forward to future episodes!
