    A2Z 73: Transfers

    A2Z 73: Transfers

All about the process of transferring law schools. IMPORTANT ADDENDUM: I had every intention of talking about financial aid as one of the factors, but then completely forgot. (It was really Dustin’s fault, but I hate to point fingers.) Financial aid is a *huge* consideration for the transfer process. Many applicants who might be considering applying to transfer are getting considerable merit aid at their initial institution, and most law schools do not award merit aid to transfer students; some law schools will award need-based aid to transfers, however. But giving up a large merit award is a huge sacrifice, and aids to the complexity of the decision. I’m sorry I failed to include this information in the video, and if you have questions, please reach out!

A Must for Law School Applicants

Law school admissions is stressful, complicated, and often times a bit of a mystery. All of this helps fuel speculation online that, while exciting, must be taken with a grain of salt because it is fellow applicants giving their views. Those giving advice often times aren’t a part of the actual admissions process.

This series has truly provided a great view at not only how to better navigate admissions, but how applications may be read (of course, it varies school to school!)

I’ll give an example of how I think this series can be beneficial. If a student has a 3.9/167 at X school, but X school has a median of 170, the student may be curious about their admission chances and seek advice online, where they may then receive advice from fellow applicants. The applicants, though well-intentioned, may use the little information available and give advice such as “well, good stats, but you’re below median.” Dean Z has given a great look into the process by showing how applications are read at UMich, including that it isn’t a hard and fast “you’re below median? No chance.” The podcasts are very informative. Also, I adore Admissions Cat in the YouTube videos!

I love this podcast and hope that even those not applying to UMich (but why wouldn’t you?) will give it a try. Thank you so much to Dean Z for putting the time into this, and to those who work on the videos, podcasts, and respond to any related emails. It has definitely helped me.

Phenomenal and Accessible Content

Dean Z’s insight was invaluable as I submitted my law school applications for the 2020-2021 admissions cycle. Her review of specific applications was especially helpful. I highly recommend this content to prospective law school applicants.

Thank you, Dean Z!
