Accounting Stories

Accounting Stories approaches accounting as ‘storytelling with numbers’ and goes beyond ‘debits and credits’. In each episode, Bart Dierynck, a professor of management accounting at Tilburg University, a co-host and a guest bring a unique blend between accounting topics and personal stories.

Tjibbe is an accounting researcher and PhD-candidate at the University of Amsterdam and also Senior Research Data Specialist of the Foundation for Auditing Research. After obtaining his MSc in Accountancy at Nyenrode Business School, Tjibbe worked more than 10 years for PwC in the Netherlands and in Germany. Why did Tjibbe leave a well-paid job to start a PhD? How did Tjibbe experience the switch to being a PhD-student and what is the difference if you do a PhD directly after your MSc? What is Tjibbe’s view on the accountancy profession today?     In this episode of ‘Accounting Stories’, we talk with Erwin Van Laethem. Erwin is chief commercial officer at Scone. Scone is an AI-driven platform supporting firms and individuals on their path towards net zero. Before Scone, Erwin had a long career in the energy sector and was CEO of Essent, a major Dutch energy company. Erwin also was CEO of Van de Velde, a Belgian listed company active in women’s lingerie, sports & swimwear and well known for the brands Marie Jo, Prima Donna and Andres Sarda. We talk with Erwin about the energy crisis and the energy transition but also about how he uses accounting information for making decisions. And why did Erwin move from the energy sector to Van de Velde? The role of the Scone-platform in the energy transition is also discussed.
