Saturday, 27th April, 2024, Chris Christoforou,CEO, Victorian Alcohol & Drug Association (VAADA), Second Safe Injecting Room Abandoned
Macca and Paul talk to Chris Christoforou CEO, Victorian Alcohol & Drug Association (VAADA), as Premier Jacinta Allan has announced that the second safe Injecting room has been abandoned
Premier Jacinta Allan has declared Victoria will never get a second injecting room under her leadership, after the government failed to identify a CBD location that would not hurt the city’s shopping strips and stigmatise vulnerable drug users.
Allan abandoned the four-year-old policy on Tuesday, against the recommendations of former police commissioner Ken Lay’s report, which the government requested in 2020 when it promised to open a safe injecting room in the CBD. The government remains committed to the existing North Richmond facility, which first opened as a trial in 2018.

Saturday, 27th April, 2024: Closure of Darwin’s Only Gay Club, Throb.
Macca and Paul talk to Tim and Mark, owners of Throb, Darwin’s only gay bar/club due to structural issues.
The Northern Territory’s Building Control issued the order in September 2023.
Authorities identified fire and safety hazards as well as “un-authorised building works including the removal of walls,” the NT News reported.
A message on the Throb Nightclub Facebook page announced the long-running nightclub’s closure “until further notice”.
The team explained in the post the emergency order “stemmed from the removal of a supporting wall in the tenancy below ours.”
Throb owner Tim Palmer told the NT News at the time he agreed with the Building Control decision and said the hazards could have resulted in a “catastrophic” and “life-threatening” situation.
