And after five days the high priest Ananias came down with some elders and a spokesman, one Tertullus. They laid before the governor their case against Paul. 5 우리가 본 바로는, 이 자는 염병 같은 자요, 온 세계에 있는 모든 유대 사람에게 소란을 일으키는 자요, 나사렛 도당의 우두머리입니다. For we have found this man a plague, one who stirs up riots among all the Jews throughout the world and is a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes. 6 그가 성전까지도 더럽히려고 하므로, 우리는 그를 붙잡았습니다. He even tried to profane the temple, but we seized him. 8 총독님께서 친히 그를 신문하여 보시면, 우리가 그를 고발하는 이유를 다 아시게 될 것입니다." By examining him yourself you will be able to find out from him about everything of which we accuse him.” 22 벨릭스는 그 '도'와 관련된 일을 자세히 알고 있었으므로, "천부장 루시아가 내려오거든, 당신들의 소송을 처리하겠소" 하고 말하고서, 신문을 연기하였다. But Felix, having a rather accurate knowledge of the Way, put them off, saying, “When Lysias the tribune comes down, I will decide your case.” 23 그리고 백부장에게 명령하여, 바울을 지키되, 그에게 자유를 주고, 그의 친지들이 돌보아 주는 것을 막지 말라고 하였다. Then he gave orders to the centurion that he should be kept in custody but have some liberty, and that none of his friends should be prevented from attending to his needs. 24 며칠 뒤에 벨릭스가 유대 여자인 자기 아내 드루실라와 함께 와서, 바울을 불러내어, 그리스도 예수를 믿는 믿음에 관하여 바울이 설명하는 것을 들었다. After some days Felix came with his wife Drusilla, who was Jewish, and he sent for Paul and heard him speak about faith in Christ Jesus. 25 바울이 정의와 절제와 장차 올 심판에 관해서 말할 때에, 벨릭스는 두려워서 "이제 그만하면 되었으니, 가시오. 기회가 있으면, 다시 당신을 부르겠소" 하고 말하였다. And as he reasoned about righteousness and self-control and the coming judgment, Felix was alarmed and said, “Go away for the present. When I get an opportunity I will summon you.” 26 동시에 그는 바울에게서 돈을 받을까 하고 은근히 바랐다. 그래서 그는 바울을 자주 불러내어 이야기를 나누었다. At the same time he hoped that money would be given him by Paul. So he sent for him often and conversed with him. 27 두 해가 지난 뒤에, 보르기오 베스도가 벨릭스의 후임으로 직책을 맡게 되었다. 그런데 벨릭스는 유대 사람의 환심을 사고자 하여, 바울을 가두어 둔 채로 내버려 두었다. When two years had elapsed, Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus. And desiring to do the Jews a favor, Felix left Paul in prison.
