Values-Centered Messaging with Adriann Barboa Both/And: A Sexual Violence Prevention Podcast

    • Society & Culture

In 2013, the voters of Albuquerque New Mexico defeated the nation's first ballot measure that attempted to limit abortions. This unexpected outcome was made possible by the messaging strategies used in the Respect ABQ (Albuquerque) Women campaign.
In this episode, Jess Clark, Director of Sexual Violence Prevention for the New Mexico Coalition of Sexual Assault Programs, interviews Adriann Barboa about how sexual violence prevention and reproductive justice intersect, the lessons we can learn from the Respect ABQ Women campaign, and how movements can broaden our coalitions to move forward together.
Adriann Barboa is a Bernalillo County Commissioner and the Policy Director for Strong Families, NM. She works with families and communities across the state of New Mexico to bring about culture shift strategies that recognize the many kinds of families across her home state, and create new policies centered in the lived experiences of everyday New Mexicans. Adriann brings over 15  years of experience in the direct service and social justice sectors, working primarily on issues of gender and reproductive justice, anti-violence, education, and youth and criminal justice in indigenous and communities of color. She is a new grandma and proud mother of two loving young adults that bring her so much joy and keep her grounded.
