AfroFunky Mixed By DJ Tomiwa

This is concept mix which juxtaposes Afrobeats with UK Funky House. The idea for this mix came to me when two of my friends were arguing: one saying they don’t like Afrobeats but love Funky House and the other vice-versa. So essentially, this mix is something more of an argument or a thesis. It explores the musical similarities of these two genres of music through their instrumentals, vocals and lyricism. Though there are many popular songs on the mix, I purposefully put some more obscure tracks to challenge stereotypes in the differences between UK- and African-made music, to the point where you will stop caring where the music is from and just enjoy it. Ultimately, I am trying to say that if you love Afrobeats or Funky House, you should love the other too! Finally, Funky House and Afrobeats are my personal favourite genres of music to dance to, and as a British-born Nigerian, this mix is kinda just me having fun and paying homage to my dual nationality.
