AI Ethics: Queen Mary University's Breakthrough in AI Webinars Replay

Kameron's Lab | Dive In Podcast

I was invited by Queen Mary University to host three out of six of their Breakthroughs in AI webinars. It was an honor and this is the replay of the  AI Ethics webinar!

In this episode, I am joined by esteemed academics, Dr. Michaela MacDonald and Dr. Fernando Barrio. Dr. Michaela MacDonald, a lecturer at Queen Mary University and Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, specializes in Interactive Entertainment Law, AI, Robotics, and Cybersecurity Law. Her research on the societal impacts of disruptive technologies, including virtual property, cloud computing, and smart contracts, provides critical insights into how emerging technologies challenge traditional legal frameworks. She is also the editor of the Interactive Entertainment Law Review.

Dr. Barrio, currently a Reader in Sustainable Business Law and Policy at Queen Mary University of London, brings a wealth of experience in the global regulation of information technologies, intellectual property, and human rights. His focus on the legal and policy issues of digital technologies, especially AI and renewable energies, is particularly pertinent to today's discussion.

Learn how AI is reshaping interactions, decision-making, and even the fundamental ethics. We also talk about why it's crucial to tread carefully to avoid widening the chasm of disparities, especially in food production. But what about when things go wrong? We dissect the role of the insurance industry in AI, debating how they might help mitigate the risks and responsibilities entangled with AI technologies. As we demystify AI modeling, we underscore the necessity of ethical data collection and the indispensable role of interdisciplinary collaboration in ensuring AI’s ethical development. Governments, students, academics - we leave no stone unturned as we discuss their pivotal roles in sculpting the future of AI ethics. From reforming academic integrity to fostering critical thinking and curiosity among students delving into AI, our conversation covers it all.
