Welcome to Alotta Thoughts with Julia Malott. In this podcast series, Julia explores deep topics that don’t often get nuanced attention in our public discourse, with particular attention to topics surrounding sex, gender, and transgender politics.

It’s so important that we are able to hold challenging conversations about divisive topics, and it’s something that we seem to have lost as a society. It’s so easy to surround ourselves with people who think like us and affirm us by saying what we want to hear, but Julia believes real growth occurs at the intersection of our world and the worldview of others. Through intimate and empathetic conversations, Julia highlights voices who represent diverse ideological positions in order to explore the complexity of transgender politics.

Episode 3 - A Gender Critical Conversation with Audra Facinelli

Episode 3 - A Gender Critical Conversation with Audra Facinelli

In this week’s episode I had the pleasure to sit down with Audra Facinelli to discuss gender critical perspectives around transgender matters.
Audra came to my attention in April 2022 when I made a video discussing a Twitter post she made about adult gender transitions. I later learned that she almost blocked me when I posted my video, but instead she thoughtfully engaged with my perspective and responded to me. Over the weeks that followed we began chatting a little more and ultimately came to the decision to record this podcast episode together.
Audra and I have differing views on a number of topics but you won’t find much disagreement in today’s episode. The purposes of our chat was to have a discussion, not a debate, and I believe there’s tremendous value in thoughtfully listening to someone’s perspective rather than simply refuting it. I learned a lot from Audra’s thought and I’m so thankful that she took this time to connect with me!
The day after we recorded this episode Audra fact-checked herself and made a correction that she’d like me to highlight. In the video she meant to say that 16 of women are victims of sexual assault, not that 16% of men are sexual assaulters. I have deep respect for Audra for being the kind of person who checks herself on these sorts of statistics!

Alotta Thoughts Episode 3 - Conversation with Catherine Kronas, Eva Kurilova, Neil Dorin and Lois Cardinal

Alotta Thoughts Episode 3 - Conversation with Catherine Kronas, Eva Kurilova, Neil Dorin and Lois Cardinal

In this lively conversation, I am joined by Catherine Kronas, Eva Kurilova, Neil Dorin and Lois Cardinal to take a deep dive into Pronouns, Classical Liberalism, and a discussion around current political discourse on gender matters. I was really excited to have this conversation and it certainly didn’t disappoint. After my first discussion with Chanel and Catherine and the backlash from radical feminists, Catherine and I wanted to take a deeper dive into the conversation. Prior to this chat, I hadn’t had the opportunity to connect with Eva, Neil or Lois so it was exciting to connect with them all in one go!

Respectful conversation on hard topics.

Thank you Julia, for being the change you wish to see in the world. This is how people used to come together and try to find middle ground. We will never move forward as a society without these important discussions around the kitchen table.
