Each week we will be talking to people like you and to breeders, vets, producers and professionals.

256 Reflections down on the farm
Welcome to the podcast for alpaca people!
Observations from the Alpaca Farm: Morning Rituals and Seasonal Changes
In this episode of the Alpaca Tribe podcast, host Steve Hetherington talks through his routines and experiences on an early, frosty morning.
Steve shares his breakfast feeding routine with the alpacas, contemplates the weight of the feed bag and reflects on the peculiarities of the day, warning listeners about life's unexpected abnormalities.
Steve revels in the seasonal changes, namely, the cold weather and frost, which he appreciates for their role in curbing parasites. He comments on the ascetic details of being out on a quiet, cold, frosty farm, and the peculiar behaviours of the alpacas, the birds, and a resident swan.
Steve also emphasizes the importance of being observant, and asks listeners to reflect on what they notice in their surroundings, and how that affects their actions.
The podcast wraps up with some pointers about seasonal preparation and maintenance to face the winter, including looking after running repairs, feeds, and fences. Steve prompts listeners to make their own shortlists of things to accomplish in the coming week.

252 What are the best alpaca questions to ask?
Welcome to the podcast for alpaca people! In this episode, I will be discussing some of my favourite questions to consider when spending time with these amazing creatures.
The first question to ask yourself is "What is it that I am seeing?" This is an important step in observation that can help you better understand the behaviour and actions of your alpacas.
The next question to ask is "What does it mean?" This question is crucial in interpreting your observations, and it can change depending on the context of the situation and over time.
So, the next time you are with your alpacas, take some time to pay attention to what you notice. Start by asking yourself "What is it?" and then extend your questions to "What does it mean?"
By utilizing these questions, you can deepen your understanding of alpacas and develop a stronger bond with these fascinating animals.
Thanks for listening and I hope you enjoyed it.

Alpaca Owner
I love the episodes on building confidence with alpaca. It’s the little things we often forget when we’ve gotten caught up in life. He has a soothing voice and reminds me why I like alpaca even when they spit in my face as they have their nightly dinner disagreements. I would love some episodes that provide a deeper dive into management etc for fellow alpaca owners.
Life lessons
I do not own an alpaca but I may have seen one in person!
I love this podcast because it has a quiet and kind sensibility toward life that I find to be very enjoyable. I can apply these reflections easily to my own.
Podcast 116 emphasizes the coming of spring and separating the weaned young ones from their mothers. A shift in ones own life can be like this. Grief and puzzlement followed by a sense of freedom and a new day. Sunlight. Thank you.
Inspiring and Soothing
Even though I am not an alpaca owner, I find this podcast to be engaging. Steve has a welcoming, yet commanding approach as he dives into each episode. Steve provides plenty of delightfully endearing moments and details about the alpacas, showing just how much he cares about them. You won’t be disappointed.
