It's 2008 and Aly Merritt is rapidly climbing the ladder on her way to becoming the managing editor of a major print publication. She has found her calling and is going all in on this career. Then almost overnight Aly watches as the print media industry collapses. Facing a crossroads of pursuing a dying industry or reinventing herself, Aly set out to find a new career. It would be another 5 years before she discovered the emerging tech startup scene in Atlanta and found where she knew she was meant to be.
Fast forward to today, Aly Merritt is the Managing Director for the Atlanta Tech Village, a community space for 1200 tech entrepreneurs. Over the last fourteen years, Aly has explored 10 different careers, each time acquiring new skills, knowledge, and deeper understanding of herself. 7 of those 10 careers she explored within a single company. Aly shows us that changing careers doesn't have to mean changing companies or starting over. On this episode she shares how a willingness to step outside her comfort zone, communicating what she wanted, and not getting emotionally invested in any one job allowed her to build roles designed uniquely for her. Enjoy!
