I tried getting into this show, it’s a topic I want to hear stories about and am eager to find a good podcast on. Each episode I’ve listened to starts with a well written story segment which is immersive and gripping, but that’s usually only a quarter to half the episode. What follows is a lot of off topic banter and just talking about the podcast itself more broadly. A lot of “we’re doing this event here at this time”, “this episode was fun to make because it harkens back to another episode we made”, “last season we talked about x which you guys liked so that’s why we wanted to make this episode”, like it’s just general podcast meta that totally takes me out of the show. I get that you have to plug your projects a bit, that’s okay, and involving your audience is a good thing. But maybe get it out of the way in the first ten minutes of the show and then give us a whole show about the stated topic. I still haven’t heard any substantive discussion of the episodes topic after the brief story section at the beginning (unless it’s pertaining to one of the hosts books which they obviously have a lot to say about), it just seems odd that so much of the show is devoted to off topic chit chat. Moreover, the ads and ad placement are jarring and make this a show you just can’t go to sleep to. I don’t hate it, it just feels like missed potential. The writing is clearly good but the show suffers from disproportionate off topic banter vs substantive story/discussion. I actually do enjoy good banter and discussion when it’s on topic, just not when it’s mostly about the “state of the podcast” or other unrelated topics.

Absolutely love your show. I listen and relisten often, and it still draws me in. I am always looking forward to new seasons and episodes, and can’t wait to read Mr Taylor’s books. Thank you Cody and Troy for getting me through some rough nights.

Just recently I have discovered this podcast! I am still binging and am currently on season 5, yea the sound has become much better! 😉. Growing up in a town close to Decatur I’ve been a fan of Troy for years! I have recently dug out my Haunted Decatur book and my 10 year old has been reading it. We are both very excited about listening to and reading more of the podcast and catching up on his books! Troy and Cody are amazing together and I find myself smiling and even laughing while listening! Keep up the great work guys!!
