Why You Shouldn’t Let Imposter Syndrome Dim Your Light

Why You Shouldn’t Let Imposter Syndrome Dim Your Light

What’s the deal with imposter syndrome? No matter how successful you truly are, imposter syndrome will always be there. It won’t ever go away. In this week’s episode, I’m walking you through my personal struggle with imposter syndrome, why everyone suffers from it, and why you should never let it stop you--no matter how awful it feels.

I know how real imposter syndrome can get. But the truth of the matter is imposter syndrome is only a feeling, not a fact. If you’ve ever dimmed your light or taken a step back from speaking when you know you have so much to offer, this episode is for you.

So tune in to this episode and find out why you are capable of moving beyond imposter syndrome, and why you shouldn’t hold yourself back from making an impact.

    In this episode, we cover:
Where I am in my journey Why I had to get over my anxiety over speaking on Clubhouse What happened when I pushed through my imposter syndrome The importance of moving or helping just one person The domino effect of inspiration Why imposter syndrome is not going away and the only thing you can do about it
“Imposter syndrome will always be there. It's not going away. The only difference is you still have to do something instead of letting it stop you. You have to take action. If you don't take action, nothing gets done. Nothing happens. Nothing changes. ” - Dana Bowling

Pursuing Your Creative Passions with Amy Phillips

Pursuing Your Creative Passions with Amy Phillips

When one door closes, a million more open. This saying could not be more true, and my guest on this episode, Amy Phillips, proves it. Amy is a master impersonator, self-proclaimed “realest, fakest housewife,” and the hilarious host of Reality Checked on Sirius XM’s Radio Andy.

In today’s episode, Amy shares her incredibly inspirational journey of paving her way in the creative space. She shares the trials of pursuing an acting career, and how standing her ground and pursuing her passions ultimately led her to great opportunities.

From her voice acting days in Detroit, viral videos on Funny or Die and YouTube, to multiple appearances on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen--Amy’s story is a true testament to the power of pursuing your passions.

    In this episode, we cover:
How Amy started doing impressions and radio sketches Why you can do it all, but not all at once Pivoting from Hollywood and pursuing her passions Juggling voiceover work and fulfilling her creative projects Running a 5-day show on SiriusXM’s Radio Andy Tips for mastering impressions
    IG Quotes:

“You just have to pivot and figure out what the hell you're gonna do. I have to just keep doing my own thing because that's the only thing I can control. ” - Amy Phillips

“I have to really pick and choose what I pour my energy into. Because for me, I'm a good multitasker. But at the same time, I have to compartmentalize certain aspects of creativity. Because if I am multitasking too much when it comes to creative stuff, it suffers. I feel like the product and the material suffers and it's like a half-assed thing and it's not going over well. ”- Amy Phillips

“Sometimes I just have to wave the white flag and be like, I can't do it all. I can't be all of it that I really want to be. I have to just make the tough choices so that I can be a good mom and be proud. You can do it all. You just can't do it all right now.” - Amy Phillips

“Committing to the full five days a week definitely meant surrendering to other pursuits I had in mind, but embracing this amazing opportunity because I never would have thought it would have been like a five-day week show in a million years. ” - Amy Phillips

How to Build an Online Community Through Blogging with Coach Bree Pair

How to Build an Online Community Through Blogging with Coach Bree Pair

Are blogs still relevant? With the rise of social media, blogging might feel like a thing of the not-so-distant past (we’re talking 2000’s here). Bree Pair, a successful lifestyle blogger and blogging coach, joins the podcast today to make the case for blogging and why it’s an important tool for building an online community.

She shares her expert opinion on why social media is not enough. Bree also discusses her thoughts on why it’s 100% possible to succeed in a saturated space. From growth strategies to repurposing content across different platforms, this episode is a must for anyone who wants to build an engaged community in the online space through blogging.

    In this episode, we cover:
Is blogging dead? Why social media is great but unreliable The benefits of having a blog Growth strategies from SEO to Pinterest Why making investments is the key to growth
“There's something that happens when you invest. You're like, ‘Okay, I am all in, I'm going to go get my money's worth out of this program, I'm going to be the student at the front of the class asking all the questions and getting all the feedback.’ There's a mindset shift that happens when you decide I'm going to spend some money to actually do this.” - Bree Pair

“Focus on things like SEO, Pinterest, and then incorporating strategy when it comes to social media platforms like Instagram. Bring awareness to the fact that you have a blog, and that you have things outside of Instagram to offer them.”- Bree Pair

“We love Instagram and bloggers are obsessed with Instagram for the most part. But bloggers need to own something outside of that. Because if Instagram were to change one day, if the algorithm shifts, if something happens and you disappear... God forbid you get hacked and that's gone. Where can people find you still? Just always make sure that if something were to happen, your people still know how to find you.” - Bree Pair

“Blogs could be so beneficial because it's another place for you to show your expertise. And when you have articles that are on your blog that are keyworded specifically to solve those pain points for people. And then you're pushing them out to your current audience, but also pushing them out through SEO so they're gonna live on Google. People will find you that way. ” - Bree Pair

Why More Followers Does Not Equal Success

Why More Followers Does Not Equal Success

Why do we tie our success to the number of followers we have on our social media accounts? What we need to realize is that the most important part of the entrepreneurial journey is our community and the connections we make. And the bigger our community gets, the harder it is to establish deep, meaningful connections with each individual member.

In this episode, I am quickly chatting about why we need to stop getting hung up on how many followers we have on Instagram and why that doesn’t legitimize our success as an entrepreneur or business owner. I am also unpacking the real reason behind why we crave followers and why it’s important to understand that more followers equals followers. Period.

    In this episode, we cover:
How Clubhouse is growing my Instagram following exponentially The purpose of why we are all in business Why we all get hung up on gaining more followers The perks of having a low follower account Why community and connection is the most important part of business
“Your follower count does not equal whether or not you're good at what you do. Your follower count is just that. It's not anything else. So let's not attach meaning to it.” - Dana Bowling

Creating a Personal Brand that Connects with Your Audience

Creating a Personal Brand that Connects with Your Audience

Your brand is not what your website looks like or your logo, fonts, or colors. Your brand is your brand values. It's who you are. It's what you bring to the table. Your brand is defined by the connections that you make and the feelings that you evoke in others. Truly developing your brand takes a lot of reflection and could also require some pivoting. In today’s episode we’re keeping it short and sweet, but full of great tips on developing an impactful brand.

    In this episode, we cover:
Personal branding beyond your logo and colors - defining your brand values Figuring out your unique value propositions (or branding qualities) Getting an outside perspective to find clarity
“I want you to become the person that people need to follow because you're enriching their lives. You're adding to their life and you are creating value unlike any thing else, and that my friend will be your brand, the colors, the vibe, the logo, all of that.” - Dana
