How many teams should be dreaming of making the 2024 College Football Playoff?

How many teams should be dreaming of making the 2024 College Football Playoff?

It’s a Dear Andy show, and we have some great questions pulled from Andy’s Ask Me Anything on Reddit’s college football subreddit this week.

But first, we have a lot of news…

    (0:00-5:59) CFP on TNT?
(6:00-8:08) Big Ten Joins in on House Settlement
    (8:09-14:44) Big Ten... After Dark?
(14:45-15:51) Dear Andy Intro - Reddit Edition
    (15:52-28:41) CFP *Berth Hopes
    (28:42-32:40) Up and Coming Coaches
(32:41-37:53) 5 Part Question - Focusing on Negatives?
(37:54-40:20) Covering Teams Expected to Lose?
    (40:21-42:22) Covering Big Brand Names
(42:23-43:59) General Attitude towards smaller schools?
(44:00-46:24) Happiness vs Misery for Fans
(46:25-49:30) What are chances of Big 12 or ACC getting 3 teams in?
    (49:31-52:01) White Whales
(52:02-58:29) Favorite Game to watch live in person?
    (58:30-1:01:37) Best Non-NCAA Sport?
    (1:01:38-1:02:14) Conclusion

TNT will televise two first-round College Football Playoff games and will add two quarterfinal games in 2026.

The Big Ten’s presidents approved the House v. NCAA settlement, joining the ACC, the Big 12 and the NCAA Board of Governors.

The Rutgers at USC game will kick off at 8 p.m. local (11 p.m. Eastern) on Fox on Friday, Oct. 25 (Presumably after a World Series game).

    Now on to your questions:

How many teams can enter the season realistically expecting to compete for a College Football Playoff berth?

Which Group of 5 head coach should be the next called up to a power conference job?

Could three teams from either the ACC or Big 12 make the CFP?

What was Andy’s favorite game to cover in person?

    (0:00-12:59) Intro - House v NCAA
(13:00-15:09) Jaden Rashada Suing Billy Napier Recap
    (15:10-33:11) Pete Nakos Joins
(33:12-45:26) Nick De La Torre Joins
    (45:27-58:37) Florida's Outlook in 2024
    (58:38-1:00:40) Conclusion

The ACC and Big 12 have voted to approve the House v. NCAA settlement. The NCAA's Board of Directors has as well. More approvals will come, which means schools could be sharing revenues directly with athletes within the next year.

What seemed unthinkable 10 years ago is on the verge of happening.

Meanwhile... QB Jaden Rashada has sued Florida coach Billy Napier and Florida mega-donor Hugh Hathcock alleging fraud because Rashada didn't receive any of the money he claims he was promised during his recruitment by Florida. Rashada, a four-star prospect in the class of 2023, flipped from Miami to Florida in November 2022. He signed with Florida even though his NIL deal already had been terminated by the collective that wrote it. He claims in the suit that Napier and Hathcock assured him he'd receive $1 million upon signing with the Gators. He did not. Rashada wound up playing last year at Arizona State and has since transferred to Georgia. On3's Pete Nakos joins to discuss the case.

Later, Nick De La Torre of Gators Online joins to talk about what impact the lawsuit could have on Napier and the Gators. Nick also fills us in on where Florida stands following spring practice as the Gators face a brutal schedule in a make-or-break year.

    (1:09:40-1:13:59) Kansas State
    (1:14:00-1:15:35) Conclusion, Wrapping Up

Is Ohio State really No. 1? Is Andy too high on Alabama? Why does Andy love Kansas State so much?

Andy and Jesse compare Andy’s ranking with Jesse’s conference power rankings, and Andy wants to know why Jesse doesn’t believe in Auburn.

Will either one be ultimately correct? Probably not! But it makes for a delightful debate in June.

Wisconsin head coach Luke Fickell joins the show to talk about Year 2 with the Badgers. Wisconsin went 7-6 in Fickell’s first season, and he believes he’s identified the issues that fed into the Badgers’ late-season slide and plans to correct him.

    (0:00-7:49) Intro - Andy's Top 25
    (7:50-11:12) Wisconsin in 2024
(11:13-32:15) Wisconsin Head Coach Luke Fickell joins

    (56:11-1:00:00) Coaching Rules
    (1:00:01-1:01:27) Conclusion

Fickell explains how different his second spring in Madison has felt. Plus, he and Andy discuss how Fickell used Year 2 as a major launching pad during his tenure at Cincinnati. Fickell also talks about why he’d like the quarterback competition between Miami transfer Tyler Van Dyke and Braedyn Locke to continue through the summer.

Next, On3’s Pate Nakos joins Andy to discuss some of the big issues that could be coming to a head in college sports in the next few weeks. A settlement has been proposed in House v. NCAA that would usher in revenue sharing with athletes, but there are a lot of logistical hurdles.

Plus, Pete updates us on some of the last action in the spring transfer portal window.

Can Kalen DeBoer win a national title at Alabama within three years? | Billy Napier's win total?

Can Kalen DeBoer win a national title at Alabama within three years? | Billy Napier's win total?

It’s a Dear Andy show! But before Andy answers your questions, he has an announcement:

He has chosen a dynasty mode team for EA Sports College Football. Hint: It’s the new team of a certain high-ranking quarterback who just emerged from the transfer portal.

(0:00-6:25) Intro - General Booty to ULM
(6:26-25:42) Dear Andy Intro - Kalen DeBoer's Outlook at Alabama
    (25:43-34:19) Billy Napier's 2024 Outlook

    (1:04:08-1:09:39) EA Sports Dynasty
(1:09:40-1:10:17) Conclusion - See you tomorrow!

    On to your questions…

Can Kalen DeBoer win a national title at Alabama in the next three years?

How many games does Florida’s Billy Napier have to win to keep his job?

Which coaches does Andy trust from an on-field schematic standpoint to win a game if both teams have equal talent?

If the ACC loses Florida State, Clemson and North Carolina (or more), where would everyone else wind up?

Now that Andy has chosen his dynasty mode team, which movie/TV college football program would he create for build-a-team mode?

Cheating

Andy, I love the show , but this last show of gushing over JH, is a stretch at best, they cheated & all the evidence that they have of this, even when UM wins the title its gonna be stripped in 2yra & that game Monday was mistake ridden on both sides, Michigan just happened to be the winner of Bama not getting the calls & breaks that they’ve had all year,UGA beats Michigan by 10 easy

Stick to college football

Ya lost me when you said people want to watch the garbage that happened at the end of the women’s SEC basketball tournament final. First, what people REALLY want is to not be subjected to your opinions on college basketball, men’s or women’s. Second, not all of us are interested in brawls and classlessness. I teach my young daughters to keep their composure, rather than losing their cool and being mentally small. Things happen, sure, but it doesn’t mean we should celebrate it. But I guess if all you care about is the drama surrounding sports, and not actually the sports themselves, then knock yourself out. But don’t lump those of us who actually want to watch the sport in with the ones who care more about the kardashian type nonsense that sometimes accompanies it.

Great show. Too many long ads.

One of the better college football podcasts (I listen to a lot of them). Andy is usually first to market with CFB information and consistently puts out lots of relevant content with good guests. But, the ads are very long and not really informative. Mostly FanDuel state-by-state fine print that just distracts from the overall show. I get the need for sponsors to keep the light on, but those 2-min long ads in the middle of the show really degrade the listening value.
