My Experience at Northern Kentucky University - PART THREE

    ABOUT THE HOST:
    Christopher- Marcus Johnson
At the age of 21, Christopher-Marcus Johnson confronted the formidable reality of testing positive for HIV. While this pivotal moment could have cast his life into despair, it became the catalyst for his unwavering determination to overcome life's challenges.

Navigating the depths of substance use, the isolation of incarceration, the anguish of homelessness, the scars of child abuse, the heartbreak of domestic violence, and the pain of sexual assault, he emerged more robust and resilient than ever before.

Against all odds, he constructed his life from the ground up, resolutely refusing to let his adversities define him.

Despite being confronted with numerous challenges, his journey has instilled in him a profound sense of empathy and an unyielding spirit. Christopher’s life experiences have created within him an unshakeable belief in the power of resilience and an immense desire to offer support and hope to others facing similar struggles.

Christopher-Marcus Johnson is not merely a survivor; he is a warrior who has transformed pain into purpose, turning his experiences into assets that fuel his passion for advocacy and change.

After experiencing homelessness as a young person in California and Texas, Christopher was able to finish high school and receive his Associate of Arts degree at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College.

He then enrolled in the BA in Law program at Northern Kentucky University, where he has since completed one year.

Unfortunately, in the Fall 2023 Semester of his senior year, Christopher was forced to withdraw from NKU because of both unsafe housing conditions in the dorms and, as a gay student, bullying, hazing, and intimidation at the hands of students, with no support from the administration.

In response to the injustice Johnson faced at his university, he started a campaign on campus that included a digital organizing strategy.

He created a petition which, to date, has collected 100 signatures.

Northern Kentucky University has never seen this kind of mobilization of students on any issue in recent years.

Christopher-Marcus Johnson’s experience and success with social media content optimization, and now being able to use his platforms to digitally organize, position him as a social media influencer capable of enacting historical change.
