Atypical Truth
Humans are storytelling beings, and here at Atypical Truth, we love sharing stories from people with disabilities and their caregivers. Atypical Truth amplifies the stories of those within the community of rare diseases, disabilities, and medically complex conditions. Not only will you hear from our peers in this community, but you will also hear stories from family, friends, caregivers, and professionals who advocate with us. Each season features a new guest co-host who shares with us a glimpse into their lives, joined by people and professionals within their tribe. Erica’s perspective, knowledge and wit opens the door for those of us outside of the disabled community to better support and advocate with our disabled and care-giving friends. Her voice is a balm.

My favorite podcast! Whether you’re a fellow medical parent, disabled person, caregiver or medical provider, someone who cares about creating a better and more compassionate world, or someone who wants to better understand the diversity of human experience, this podcast is for you. Besides being a joy to simply listen to, Erica Jolene doesn’t shy away from the hard conversations and atypical truths. These honest conversations make for a podcast that truly builds community and provides resources for listeners. I can’t get enough!
Loudest softly spoken message

I’m so excited about this podcast. For someone who wasn’t even supposed to be able to talk due to her own disability, it’s incredible that Erica is able to use her voice and this podcast so eloquently as a platform to help form a community that simply doesn’t exist. A community where vulnerability is not turned into judgement. People don’t want to hear that others are struggling, but they want to be validated in knowing that if you are struggling, it’s ok. We are only human and we are lead to believe that any “negative” emotion is just that, negative. And it’s not. I’m excited for her to show us new perspective and even change others’ perceptions and perspectives. How refreshing!!!! Thank you Erica!
