Authenticity in the Office: Balancing Your Personality with Professionalism

Okay, Now What? - With Kate Gladdin

Welcome to the first podcast episode of "Okay. Now What?" relaunched for adults! Together we're going to cover a whole range of topics that will help you get 'unstuck' and make the progress you've been dying to make in all areas of life - whether it's in your relationship, self confidence, career, health and body image - this show will have your back!

Throughout the episodes, you'll gain unique perspectives, inspiration and strategies that you can immediately put into practice and better navigate life's suprise detours and 'oh sh*t' moments. I will teach you mindset tools that will finally end your cycle of self sabotage and overcome your insecurities so you don't go to the grave saying "I was going to but I was scared.."

My goal as your host is to take you out of passive mode and stop letting life happen to you. Instead, together we are going to help YOU happen to life and take back control over how any situation impacts you. This means less anxiety, worrying and second guessing yourself, and more deciding, believing and taking action on what matters most to you. Let's do this!

This first episode comes from a question on Instagram that I received:

"I’ve been struggling with feeling like people don’t like my big sparkly personality at work. Now I don’t do it when we have a big external person meeting. But within my team I want to let myself be me. But I don’t think that’s being received very well? But authenticity is important to me so I don’t want to dull my shine. But I feel like I should for the sake of my career?"

The dilemma of wanting to be yourself at work while wanting to make friends and align with the company's culture is one that many people can relate to. In fact, should we even strive to be our authentic selves at work to begin with? Tune in to learn what I believe is a healthy balance to strike and how to better connect with colleagues without feeling like you're faking or pretending to be someone you're not.

In this episode you will find out about:

  • The importance of authenticity in personal and professional settings.
  • Navigating workplace dynamics and interactions.
  • The concept of personality multiplicity and having different aspects of self.
  • Strategies for expressing authenticity while being adaptable.
  • Practical steps for self-reflection and understanding one's personality.
  • Building rapport and trust with colleagues through consistent interactions.
  • Shifting focus from authenticity to appropriateness in different contexts.
  • Encouragement to embrace change and adapt personality expression while staying true to core values.
