One of the best podcasts around. All the real world drama of ‘Serial’ without the contrived ‘whodunnit?’ suspense. A podcast that is dedicated to educate rather than to titillate. The pod provides a peek behind the curtain of law enforcement in Ireland. It provides an important service for the citizenry of a still relatively new state, a citizenry just learning the dangers of accepting without question the authority of those to whom we have granted the most invasive powers. The pod benefits greatly from the talents of Dr. Vicky Conway, a rare combination of the knowledge of her academic scholarship along with both an empathy for victims and an amazing ability to communicate key points to her audience. It is a great piece of work, and one I wholeheartedly recommend. The themes are universal, provoking the same questions of how the police and the judicial system support, neglect or abuse the victim. Listen in. You won’t regret it.

I had high hopes for this podcast as I have a major interest in crime, policing and law, especially in an Irish context. The Padraig Nally case in Mayo or the Garlic Man case would have been fascinating to cover. Instead, the first episode consists of an immigrant with a distractingly shaky voice crying that the Gardai are racist because she has to stand in line to get a visa stamp. NGO shills from the anti-racism network are given free reign to spout their propaganda (self-confessed drug dealer and woman beater Joe Loughnane’s old organisation). Very disappointing and nothing new that we aren’t bombarded with from the mainstream media on a daily basis.
