Bahirji Naik (बहिर्जी नाईक)

बहिर्जी नाईक म्हणजे महाराजांच्या सामर्थ्याचा गुप्त आधारस्तंभव म्हणावे लागतील. स्वराज्य सेनेच्या गुप्तहेर खात्याचा प्रमुख म्ह सांभाळत असतं. या गुप्तहेर खात्याच्या साहाय्याशिवाय शत्रूप्रदेशामध्ये मोहिमा आखणे जवळ जवळ अशक्य होते.
कारण शत्रू गोटोतील हालचाली, तेथील प्रदेशांमधील महत्त्वाची ठाणी, महत्त्वाच्या व्यक्तींची कमकुवत स्थाने अ युद्ध प्रसंगी रामबाण इलाज ठरेल अशी एखादी गुप्त गोष्ट शोधून काढण्याचे महत्त्वपूर्ण काम गुप्तहेर खाते करत असे.
म्हणजे एक प्रकारे विजयाचा पाया घालण्याचे काम हे गुप्तहेर खाते करायचे आणि पुढे त्यावर कळस चढवण्याचे काम अर्थातच महान शूर शिलेदारांचे असायचे, छत्रपती शिवाजी महाराजांना देखील गुप्तहेर खात्याचे महत्त्व माहित असल्याने अगणित निर्धी ते या खात्यावर खर्च करीत असत.
