Criticism as a Love Letter with Laura Robertson

*Currently pepping myself up to write the copy for today's episode* Let writing into your life... We chat with Laura Robertson, a working-class art critic, writer, editor and award-winning lecturer based in Liverpool, represented by United Agents, London.  She co-founded The Double Negative online arts magazine with Mike Pinnington in 2011, and has been commissioning and platforming under-the-radar people, projects and places ever since – including under-represented and early-career culture writers from the North of England.  This episode is, as you may expect, all about WRITING. Writing doesn't always feel like it fits into an art practice, but Laura tells us all about how letting writing into your life and art can be transformative in more ways than one. Taking a step back from the deep of the art world, we have a think about our journey before we got there, and discuss education. The good, the bad, the ugly. Participation for the Nation with Grace Collins

What is participatory art really about? We chat with Grace Collins (they/them), an artist and artworker. They create art with other people, support creative activity, ask lots of questions and listen to people’s answers. With a bit of luck this means creating spaces for justice, challenging and expanding learned ideas of what the world is allowed to look like. Grace tells us about their practice, and dives more deeply than we ever have before into the power of collaboration in the sector - come swim in the socially engaged deep with us, the water is fine! The Bourne (Artist) Identity

Don't they say an artist by any other name would smell as sweet? Either way, what does it mean to have an artistic identity? Can you be considered a professional without your practice having a 'recognisable' image? How much can we push the 'rules' that exist around making art to sell, and developing a career in the industry? This and more to come! Beyond the Bang and Breaking Tradition with Jan Erichsen

You might say that this artist is presenting a new generation of Pop Art... We chat with Jan Erichsen, a Norwegian contemporary artist most well-known for his "destruction videos" online. The videos most commonly depict elaborate methods of popping balloons, but other recurring themes include crushing dry pasta and taco shells, destroying household items, and wearing bizarre "hats" made from food. We find out what makes him tick, and even play along with the shenanigans a little ourselves... So, search BANG ON in your streaming app to listen, like, follow, and subscribe.
