Long Term Thinking Over Short Term Feelings. Ep. 44.

I almost didn’t record an episode this week. This episode was scheduled to come out on July 4th and so I thought, “It doesn’t matter, it’s a holiday, and there will be WAY fewer people listening.” But I had to stop and think of myself in the not-too-distant future and ask, “Would future Amanda be happy with the choices made by present Amanda?” No. She would probably say, “Put out an episode because it doesn’t matter 3 years in the future that it was a holiday. It matters that you created something that can positively impact more people, which you cannot do if you only create and release things when you feel like it...” Sit down, record an episode, and move on to the next thing. In this episode, we discuss: When possible, long-term thinking should win out to short-term feelings. The importance of working and thinking backwardYour goal or vision seems so far away, but when you reach it, that beginning point will feel like forever ago. Time is relative.Related Episodes:How to Stop Procrastinating and Start Living in Messy Action. Ep. 21Respecting Your Limits: Adapting to Life's Seasons. You Should Quit, and Quit Often, Ep. 43

“It’s easier to be mediocre than it is to confront reality and quit”— Seth Godin. Today we talk about how freeing it feels to finally quit something that no longer serves you, never truly worked for you, the reward is no longer worth the effort, or you’re just plain average at. It means you can shift your energy to something else, something better suited to you. But quitting is hard. It’s easier to ignore the truth that it’s better to quit and just continue hustling down a path you’ve already put so much effort into. In this episode, we discuss: “Most people are afraid to quit and it leads to mediocrity.”—Seth GodinIt’s easier to keep going with the status quo even if you’re unhappy and you’d be better suited to something elseThe importance of quitting at the “right” time instead of wasting your timeIt takes courage to quit and to face the unknown of what comes next, it takes guts to quitRelated Episodes:Are You a “Quitter?” OR Did You Change Your Mind?
