    IELTS Writing Task 2- Structure, Types and Tips

    There are 6 main types of IELTS Task 2 essays: 1) Opinion Essays 2) Discussion Essays 3) Problem Solution Essays 4) Advantages & Disadvantages Essays 5) Double Question/ Two Part Questions Essays 6) Miscellaneous Essays Most questions belong to one of these categories. However, questions can be written in different ways, which can make it difficult to determine their type. In this episode , I will give you an overview of all 6 IELTS Task 2 essay types, with some practical tips, a sample question to help you recognise some of the different wording often used and a standard structure for each type that you can use for essay writing process

    IELTS General Training Module Task 1- Informal Letters

    In informal letter writing you should know whom you are writing to and the overall formality of the letter. The task can be addressed to your friends, family, relatives and the ones whom you know personally. Therefore, you should use a informal style as you are writing to a person you know very well. They are written in an easy communication style, not too formal with perfect grammar and vocabulary. Also it is very important that you do not omit the opening and closing statements. Remember, they are a must!!! Your IELTS Informal should be opened with a short explanation for the purpose of writing and end it with a suggestion that relates to it. Try to paraphrase the exam question and do not just copy sentences or words from it directly.     IELTS General Writing Task - 1 Semi-formal Letters

    In semi-formal letter writing you should know whom you are writing to and the overall formality of the letter. The task can be addressed to your manager, landlord and acquaintances. Therefore, you should use a semi-formal style as you are writing to a person you know, but not very well. They are more polite than an informal letter and are written in a neutral style, not too formal nor too informal. Also it is very important that you do not omit the opening and closing statements. Remember, they are a must!!! How you are opening your IELTS Semi-formal letter depends on the reason for the letter. It is best to open the letter with a short explanation for the purpose of the letter and end it with a request for a related action that relates to it. Try to paraphrase the exam question and do not just copy sentences or words from it directly. You will have 20 minutes to respond to a question prompt, by writing a letter to a person, company, or institution. Task 1 response carries 30% to 40% of your writing score and is graded separately from the Task 2 essay. The information includes test-taking tips, strategies to identify the type of letter you are being asked to write. Formal/ Semi-formal /Informal.

    The common tips to locate answers in the given passage, keywords in question, sequence of finding answers, and relevant vocabulary to be filled as per the instructions given in the question of Table, Flow Chart, Diagram and Short Answers Completion Type Questions. The answers should be filled as per the instructions given in the question whether one/ two/ three word/words and/or a number.

    IELTS READING: Matching Info, Sentence Completion, and MCQ Type

    Multiple choice questions are types of questions that require you to pick the correct answer from the given choices of alphabets A, B, C and D. This tests your ability to understand the detailed and specific information. Matching the Information Type questions require you to find a specific information and place them at an appropriate position. You need to be able to understand every paragraph and what information it contains. In Sentence completion type of question, you will find an incomplete sentence. You are supposed to complete it with words taken from the text. You are required to quickly map the incomplete text to a particular location in the text for you to find the correct answer. In Summary completion, a summarised text will be given to you. You are required to complete it by selecting words from the text with a given maximum number of words to complete it.

    IELTS Reading Questions Type: Matching The Headings and True/False/Not Given Type

    In the matching headings type question, you will be given a list of headings and then asked to match the heading to the correct paragraphs or sections whereas some headings and even paragraphs might remain unused. In True/False/Not Given or Yes/No/Not GivenType questions, you will have to identify information, from a number of statements and asked if the given statements agree with the information in the text. When you answer the questions, you write “True”or"Yes", “False"or"No” and “Not given” in the answer. People get confused between False and Not Given type, therefore, it is important to understand the difference between them. “False” means the passage states the opposite of the statement in question. “Not given” means that the statement is not at all given (neither directly nor indirectly) in the passage.

    IELTS READING FAQS (Academic & General Training)

    This podcast is based on format, Tips and some frequently asked questions about READING section in both type of modules. In the Academic module , you will find three sections, each having one long text. These texts are excerpts of either science-fiction books, magazines or newspapers. The topics are of general interest, and doesn't require you to be a professional to answer them. These excerpts can range from being factual, descriptive and even analytical. There may also be infographic elements like graphs, diagrams or some flow chart. If in case, there are medical or technical terms used, a glossary is usually provided.
