Behind the Glam: The Gritty Truth of Entrepreneurship with Nic Davies

I recently sat down with Nic from Plate Spinning Academy to dig into the real, sometimes gritty side of entrepreneurship. We had a laugh calling it a “darker Disneyland,” a place that looks glittery on the outside but is full of hidden twists and turns on the inside. And let’s be honest, we both feel that so much of the marketing we see around entrepreneurship is full of wild promises about overnight success and endless income streams. But if you’re like us and have actually lived it, you know it takes a lot more grit than glamour.

Nic and I agree that this lack of transparency can really impact new entrepreneurs, leaving them disillusioned early on. That’s why we emphasise the importance of doing your homework, asking questions, and prioritising genuine, meaningful connections over just “networking.” We believe real success comes from ethical choices and authentic relationships, rather than quick wins or superficial connections.
