How to invest in meaningful projects

“If you were trying to find the perfect company to invest in, you’d never make a single decision. There are always trade offs.” Tom McGillycuddy and Matt Latham are Co-Founders of CIRCA5000, an impact investing app based in the UK. The pair created the app to make it easier for people to put their money into sustainable businesses, without it costing the earth and say they’re banking on a future that humanity features in. The pair tell host Laura Nesbitt why everyone should care where they’re investing their money, they share their top tips on how beginner investors can get started and explain why CIRCA5000 gaining B Corp status was a huge milestone for their company.  Follow CIRCA5000 on Twitter. Why all businesses should consider investing in nature

“Biodiversity is finally getting a seat at the table.” Lorenzo Curci and Oliver Bolton are the co-founders of Earthly, a platform which helps businesses invest in nature. Alongside their team of entrepreneurs, engineers and scientists, they’ve come up with a world first biodiversity score which helps businesses better understand their impact on the world and gives them the confidence to invest in the right kind of projects. The pair tell host Laura Nesbitt why investing in nature provides so much more than just environmental benefits and discuss why it’s taken so long for governments to recognise that biodiversity needs a place in climate decisions. Plus we hear a sneak peek into what Earthy will be revealing at this year’s Blue Earth Summit.  Follow Earthly on Twitter. Tom Kay on breaking down barriers to accessing the ocean

“For me, being an able bodied, white, male I don’t have any barriers to accessing the ocean but it’s become clear that not everyone has that opportunity.”  Tom Kay is the founder of Finisterre, a Cornwall-based outdoor clothing brand which designs functional and sustainable products for those that share a love of the sea. Tom has long been committed to protecting the environment and the people that use it so we’re pleased to welcome him as a brand partner at this year’s Blue Earth Summit.  Tom tells host Laura Nesbitt why he’s so passionate about making the ocean accessible to everyone including through their involvement in the seasuit project which worked to create a full-coverage Seasuit and Hijab made from recycled sea waste. He also discusses how his company has evolved in the past twenty years to match consumption habits and how he hopes his business will inspire more people to get involved in protecting our oceans.  Follow Tom on Twitter. “We can’t continue extracting from the planet.” Gail Bradbrook, Extinction Rebellion

“This crisis is not something that’s going to happen to somebody else, somewhere else, at some other time.”   Gail Bradbrook is a British activist and co-founder of the environmental social movement Extinction Rebellion. Gail believes that civil disobedience on a large scale can bring about the change that is needed. She explains why she believes we all have a role to play in building a better system and repairing some of the damage humans have caused to our planet.  In a powerful moment between Gail and host Laura Nesbitt, the pair also discuss the worrying theme of “forever chemicals”, which Gail says stay in our bodies and are passed onto babies through the placenta or breast milk.  Follow Gail on Twitter.  Find out more at www.blueearthsummit.com Follow Blue Earth Summit on Twitter Follow Blue Earth Summit on Instagram Follow Laura on Instagram What is the Blue Earth Summit?
