Welcome to the “Bold Moves: How Did You Know?” podcast.
Hello to the naturally curious and to you who wants to learn more about people, their inner workings, their trials and tribulations, and their bold moves because you know that through their stories you’ll be inspired to pursue YOUR greatest achievements.
I’m Kristen Rocco and the host of this podcast as well as the founder of a content consulting business (KristenRocco.com) and a love storytelling company called Love Notery (lovenotery.com).

I started this podcast to inspire you to make bold moves. I have a hypothesis that people feel a deeper sense of life fulfillment and satisfaction when they make bold moves.

In these podcast episodes, you’ll hear bold move stories that propelled my guests from curiosity to action. And understand that doing that thing you’ve wanted to do isn’t more than making a decision and being courageous. I think there’s a gap in the way these stories are being told today. There are many stories about what someone is doing and why they’re doing it but rarely focus on the how.

That’s when my podcast name came to me. "Bold Moves: How Did You Know?"

How did you know you wanted to start a business? Advocate for change? Pursue your dream? Beneath it all is the answer to the question: How did you know you could do it?

I'll underscore the traits and behaviors it took for these leaders to go from their idea to actually doing it. And together, we’ll see if my hypothesis is right. Does making a bold move help you feel fulfilled and satisfied?

The Future of Work: How to Hire and Get Hired with Imran Syed, founder & CEO of Hatchproof

Imagine a world where you, as an employee, could not only match your skills to a job description, but you could also match your working style to your potential manager BEFORE you accepted a job?

Or, on the hiring side, imagine if you could understand a candidate’s skillset and how well they would work with you as their manager before day one.

That’s what Hatchproof is setting out to do. Imran Syed, Hatchproof’s visionary founder and CEO, has been studying workplace dynamics for quite some time.

He imagined a better employer/employee fit to improve retention and started on a mission to make the future of work work better. He shares what the future of work looks like when Hatchproof assists employees and employers to find a better match. It’s like corporate dating (my words)!

Imran also takes us inside his career before Hatchproof, a journey that crescendoed in completing an eight-figure exit as CEO at Instapage.

I learned so much in just 30 minutes about the mindset, attitude, and perspective you need to create a fulfilling work life full of bold moves – and I know you will too!

An Introvert's Guide to Pursuing Bold Moves – from an “Occupational Extrovert” with Kate Grantham, Owner of KIG Events

An Introvert's Guide to Pursuing Bold Moves – from an “Occupational Extrovert” with Kate Grantham, Owner of KIG Events

Does being an introvert make it harder to pursue bold moves?

This interesting question led me to Kate Grantham. She’s an independent event producer behind some of the most well-recognized events in the world: the Super Bowl, SAG Awards, and Sundance Film Festival to name a few.

She’s a self-proclaimed occupational extrovert, meaning that her career requires her to “turn it on” and be extremely energetic while producing corporate events (sometimes she’s on-site for 10-12 hours at a time!), but she’s an introvert at heart.

We explore this interesting dynamic – when your bold move requires you to be a different version of yourself, how do you handle that?

Kate takes us inside her process of managing being an introvert in an extroverted career and dispels a few myths about being an introvert who makes bold moves like why relationship-building may actually be easier for introverts.

You will also learn how Kate built her event production business, KIG Events, and what the difference maker was for her to continue staying on this path.

If you’re an introvert who has a big, bold dream but you're holding yourself back, this episode is for you.

If you have introverts on your team, this episode will help you understand their preferences so you can be a better colleague or manager.

You Don't Have to Be in a Midlife Crisis...

You Don't Have to Be in a Midlife Crisis...

Here’s the thing about midlife crisis…

Is it even a thing anymore?

It’s time to reframe the age-old narrative with a new twist.

I joined Diana Murphy on her podcast, The Leader’s Table, to dispel why people who make bold moves are not in crisis, we’re clicking!

You met Diana and heard her bold move story in the episode called, “Do It Your Way with Reformed Good Girl Diana Murphy” and now we’re turning the tables. She’s getting my perspective on why people who make bold moves identify more with a midlife click than a midlife crisis.

But first, I went back to the archives and learned the history of the midlife crisis. I share who invented it, how it came about, and why it no longer fits our culture and identities.

That’s not all. You’ll hear me talk about:

What midlife clicking feels like to me – and to other bold people willing to go for their dreams and write their own storiesWhat bold people know about getting OUT of a midlife crisis if you are in one right nowThe behind-the-scenes about what led to my bold move that launched this whole podcast to begin withWhat I do when I’m not focused on bold moves conversations (yes, I do other things, too!)Push play and let’s start a new conversation about the middle part of our lives!

After 55 years, Diana broke free from what was traditionally expected of her to honor her desire to create the life she wants. Now, she refers to herself as a “reformed good girl.”

Life for Diana, now 65, is curated by her and no one else. Diana takes us through how she had to shed her good girl career and her good girl life to make bold moves.

She’s a firm believer that it’s time to break free from being a good girl or guy. She shares how she did it and what helped her write her own story, instead of living by someone else’s.

Think it’s too late to make a change? Diana flipped her life upside down at 55 and has never felt better 10 years into her new lifestyle and mindset.

Tune in to hear her divulge:
Why you need to embrace your inner knowing to unlock how to make bold moves your wayHow practicing hard things helps you develop self-trust for the bold moves of your lifeWhy a bold move doesn’t mean blowing your life or career up and starting over. Learn how the slightest change can be the bold move you need to design the life you’re craving
    Episode quote I love:
“I would have it no other way – to be brave enough to leave the marriage, brave enough to start the business and honor this mission and calling. The fulfillment and the happiness I have of holding to my standard, when you think about dating and relationships and, what kind of clients I bring into the practice. I really didn't think it was possible to have what I have right now.”

A Bold Moves Graduation Speech: What We Wish We Knew About Being Bold Earlier On

A Bold Moves Graduation Speech: What We Wish We Knew About Being Bold Earlier On

Graduation season has inspired me to think about all the powerful stories and brilliant advice that my 28 bold moves guests have shared on this podcast.

I put myself into the shoes of new graduates and imagined what amazing insight I could have learned if I heard all these stories as I was graduating. It's almost like fast-forwarding into the future to ask my 40-year-old self what I could do after graduating to create a career and life I was proud of.

I realized that through the last question I ask each of my guests, "What do you know about being bold today you wish you knew earlier on?," we've co-created a bold moves graduation speech!

We're out from the other side of some of our in-the-trenches stories and our hardest moments, and we have advice we wish we could have given to our younger selves about being bold.

So I put them all together in this special clips-style podcast episode to inspire graduates who are just setting off into their new bold move journeys, as well as those in their early careers who are eager for mentorship, and all of us who need some extra encouragement to be bold as we face new challenges and opportunities.

**This is the perfect episode to share with new graduates, those early in their careers, or anyone who needs extra encouragement to keep going on their bold moves journey!**
