An Intelligent Cubs Podcast

This podcast is quickly becoming very good. It’s not perfect, but I think that each episode has been a little bit better than the last. There are occasional issues with the audio not being perfect, but the crew provides some very nice insight about the Cubs. The weekly segments are pretty interesting and the crew does a great job of keeping things light and entertaining without ever getting too off-topic. This is a really good podcast already, and I can tell that it’s going to be great in the future.

Joel's full of scalding takes and 90s Bulls analogies, Isaac is a caricature of an early-2000s undergrad who just finished the first few chapters of a Bill James book, but the other 2 are pretty inoffensive

As a dyed in the wool Cubs fan and a podcast obsessive, I was excited to see that BP Wrigleyville was starting its own podcast. Initially it was a must-listen podcast, and then it turned into a "I'll get around to it when I can" podcast, and now it's a "delete after 45 minutes podcast." They have had good interviews with people who are interesting- Sarah Spain and Julie DiCarro- but man, the longer this podcast goes on, the more I'm finding myself just irritated by the regular group of contributors- although Carlos seems like he's alright. After thinking about it, I've decided that this podcast is just too long. The gimmick segments are usually way too long and drawn out. 60 seconds with a former Cub went from interesting to stupid when they decided to make it a sophomoric comedy bit. They seem to feel the need to fill space with dumb "hot take" discussions that I don't find in line with of the work associated with Baseball Prospectus ("Who would the Cubs miss the most if they got hurt?" Kris Bryant! Thanks for the insight, dudes! "What would you tell the meatball Cubs fan not to freak out about?" Guh.) Instead of finding small sample-size stats to freak out about ("Addison Russell was 0-4 today, OMG!"), maybe work on developing a concise 30-45 minute podcast that actually does what you say you're going to do- look at the Cubs through the lens of fans and analytics. Right now it's just a boring mish-mash of neither and it just goes on waaayy too long. It really just makes me wish Limited Range would be more active.
