Buck Country Bear Hunts: Behind the Scenes with Dean and Janda Kuypers

Inside Outdoors TV Podcast

The IOTV crew is joined in a rip roaring conversation about bear hunting at Buck Country Outfitters in Saskatchewan by owners Dean and Janda Kuypers. The Kuypers discuss the history of their business on the northwest side of Saskatchewan, near the Alberta border, which began as Buck Paradise Outfitters in 2009 and evolved to include bear and whitetail deer hunting under the Buck Country name, and their transition from primarily whitetail hunting to include bear hunting due to the abundance of absolute monster bears in the area.

The Kuypers explain the process of obtaining bear tags and bait, using a variety of expired food products and natural resources. Hunting methods discussed include spot and stalk, hunting with dogs, and hunting over bait, with the latter preferred for its ability to observe bears in a natural state and make informed decisions about which animals to hunt.

The group reminisce on the excitement and unique experiences of bear hunting in Northwest Saskatchewan, such as close encounters with bears and lessons learned observing their behavior, particularly the interactions between sows and their cubs. The Kuypers emphasize the importance of responsible hunting and wildlife management to ensure the sustainability of their operations.
