Re: Dracula

One of the main issues of reading older stories is having to encounter older ideas that have since been heavily disproven. For example, feeling the bumps on a person’s head and attempting to puzzle out their personality IS PSEUDOSCIENCE! This podcast calls out and disclaims this (and other) false/bizarre beliefs at the beginning of each episode. This allowed me to better enjoy the story because it sort of acted like a “Suspend Your Disbelief & Just Go With It” sign that would otherwise totally throw me off if I attempted to read the story as is. Add to that the fantastic voice acting and original songs gently peppered throughout for increased ambience, leaves one with a fantastic podcast!

I’ve read the novel, but the epistolary style made it difficult for me to retain it and I’ve always yearned to give the story another chance. Listening to this adaptation has been so enjoyable. The voice acting is so good and the fact that we *finally* have an actual Dutchman portraying Van Helsing is such a relief!

I am enthralled by a horror story told in an elegant language read so well. I’ve taken to quoting selections of Dracula’s personal accounts gleefully apply them to toady.

Can't complain about the writing, obviously. Everything else does the writing justice. I highly recommend checking this out and finding a new show to spend your quiet time with.
