CASCADE OF HISTORY is the only LIVE radio show presenting news and stories about people doing cool things with and for history in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and British Columbia. We talk about people, artifacts, places, landmarks and the historic events that can bring us all together.
The show is broadcast live Sunday nights at 8pm Pacific Time on SPACE 101.1 FM (and streaming via http://www.space101fm.org ) from studios located in historic Magnuson Park in Seattle, former site of Sand Point Naval Air Station.

Ep. 64: Encore of ‘LIVE with Save Our Historic Parkland School’
As of Friday, May 10, 2024, the people of the Parkland Community Association in Parkland, Washington have successfully saved Parkland School and are turning it into a community center in the center of the community.
To celebrate, Feliks Banel's guests on this encore episode of CASCADE OF HISTORY – originally broadcast LIVE across the street from Parkland School - include Wendy Freeman and Phil Edlund, organizers with the group Save Our Historic Parkland School; James Hester, member of the final sixth grade class at the school who spoke out as an 11-year-old in 1981 in favor of saving the school; Tono Sablan of BlueZones Parkland-Spanaway; Nick Biermann of Save The Ryan House (in nearby Sumner, WA); local performer Gunnar Johnson; and musical guests Murdre of Crowes, featuring Elizabeth Johnson on vocals and Tim Hatch on guitar and vocals. Audience members Ruth, Dave and Pierce County Councilmember Jani Hitchen also spoke during the program.

Ep. 63: Author and Historian Frank Abe encore presentation
Feliks Banel's guest on this encore episode of CASCADE OF HISTORY is author, historian and playwright Frank Abe, who’s devoted much of the past four decades to studying, writing about, and creating public programs about the incarceration of Japanese Americans during World War II - and who hosted a series of programs in 2023 at the Seattle Public Library marking the centennial of the birth of author John Okada. Abe also served as editor of a new compilation being published by Penguin Books, "The Literature of Japanese American Incarceration," due out on May 14, 2024. Also, we hear installment two from the 1951 vintage Chief Sealth episode of the Seattle centennial educational radio program “Their Name Was Courage”; and, a recap of the Pacific Northwest Historians Guild Conference held in Seattle on September 23, including an anecdote about the one and only observance of Cherry Grove Day.

Ep. 62: Tribute to Yakama Linguist and Scholar Virginia Beavert, 1921-2024
Feliks Banel presents on this live broadcast of CASCADE OF HISTORY a tribute to the late Virginia Beavert, Yakama linguist and scholar who passed away in February 2024 at age 102. This episode features an interview with Ms. Beavert and her co-editors Michelle Jacob and Joana Jansen from January 2022; the three collaborated on the second edition of Ms. Beavert's landmark collection of legends and stories called "Anakú Iwachá" (published by Yakama Nation and University of Washington Press in 2021).

Ep. 61: Clark Park Gazebo, Seattle World's Fair Music, Louis Larsen Tribute
Feliks Banel’s guest on this live broadcast of CASCADE OF HISTORY is Andrea Tucker, president of the non-profit Historic Everett on the group's effort to reach a common-sense compromise with the City of Everett to preserve the Clark Park Gazebo. Also featured on this episode is a tribute to the late Louis Larsen, the final surviving member of the executive leadership team of the 1962 Seattle World’s Fair, who passed away last month at age 99. Larsen was a good friend of CASCADE OF HISTORY, and we listen back to excerpts from interviews with him. And, since April 21, 2024 is the 62nd anniversary of the launch of the fair, we play some old "Century 21" novelty songs and theme songs, too.

This episode features highlights from a long phone interview with Bill McLain and his wife Jean recorded July 6, 2021.
