Your First Step to Make a Difference: Starting Your Volunteering Journey | Sanday Chongo KABANGE

Listen on Apple, Spotify or any of your favorite Podcast players. In this inspiring episode, we’re honored to sit down with one of Hong Kong’s most dedicated volunteers, Sanday Chongo KABANGE. Over the past eight years, Sanday has immersed himself in a variety of causes, from environmental advocacy and homelessness to disability support and animal welfare.. Meet Sanday Chongo KABANGE In this episode, Sanday shares his incredible journey of service, highlighting the meaningful work he’s done across numerous charities and organizations in his adopted city of Hong Kong. Sanday was the proud recipient of the 2023 AmCham Ira Dan Kaye Community Award and the Spirit of Community Award at the Spirit of Hong Kong Community Award 2023.We dive deep into Sanday’s volunteerism journey, tracing it back to his roots in Zambia and how his passion for youth engagement and community service followed him across continents. The Transformative Power of Giving Back His path is a testament to the transformative power of giving back, whether through corporate CSR programs or his own personal endeavors. Not only does Sanday tirelessly serve, but he also encourages others to join him, using social media as a platform to advocate for volunteerism and inspire change. One of the key insights Sanday shares is how he overcame the language barrier while volunteering with local communities in Hong Kong, where Cantonese is primarily spoken. His concept of “silent communication” — using body language, hand gestures, and a warm smile — has helped him connect deeply with those he serves, regardless of language differences. This unique approach has enabled Sanday to bridge cultural gaps and make a lasting impact.Throughout the conversation, Sanday gives a heartfelt shout-out to some of the many organizations he’s worked with, including HandsOn Hong Kong, ImpactHK, Plastic Free Seas, Feeding Hong Kong, WWF, Habitat for Humanity, and more. Each of these organizations plays a vital role in improving the lives of Hong Kong residents, and Sanday’s involvement has been nothing short of remarkable.Whether you’re a seasoned volunteer or someone curious about getting involved, Sanday’s journey offers valuable insights and encouragement. He reminds us that you don’t have to be fluent in a language or tied to a single cause forever to make a difference. Sometimes, all it takes is a smile and the willingness to show up. Key Takeaways: * How Sanday’s volunteering journey started in Zambia and continued to flourish in Hong Kong. * The concept of “silent communication” and how it breaks language barriers in volunteering. * Insights on how to balance work, life, and community service and how you can get the best start as a new volunteer * A rundown of Hong Kong-based organizations making a difference, and how you can get involved. The Power of Leading with Your Voice | Global Leaders Summit

Listen on Apple, Spotify or any of your favorite Podcast players. You know how I always encourage you to send in a voice note for the podcast? It’s because I truly believe in the power each of you holds with your unique voices. A gift Our voices – whether they are quiet, uncertain, reflective, or bold and loud – it doesn’t matter. I believe we all have important stories to tell, and valuable lessons to share, not just for others, but for ourselves as well. I often revisit an episode I recorded for #impact years ago, where my younger self shares her perspective on the world. I love reflecting on that version of me. It’s like a precious gift. And that has always been the intention of the podcast: to be a gift. Not only for listeners who become engaged in it or feel inspired by the stories we share, as they learn about the big and small ways they can start making their own impact in their communities too – no matter where in the world they listen to it, no matter if they listen to it minutes after the episode goes live or several years later. But I also understand this podcast as a gift to the guests and voices that have been featured on the podcast over the years.by now it must be several hundred, I have lost count! Each voice, each person, and this precious moment in time, their thoughts, their wisdom – captured forever on the podcast. And making an impact for years (decades even!) to come. People are still listening to episodes I recorded years ago. There isn’t a single month were each episode on #impact even the ones that aired 8 years ago doesn’t hit at least another listen, even the ones that aired 8 years ago. It tells me this podcast’s impact is timeless—past, present, and future. Just as I discussed in our recent #impact episode with Diana Wu David, which sparked such incredible feedback (thank you if you were one of the people reaching out to share how the episode made you rethink how you look at community building! My heart is so full!) The episode you are about to hear is no different. I know it will continue to inspire for years, decades even. I’ll never forget walking through the majestic halls of Vienna City Hall, surrounded by the voices of a new kind of leadership at the Global Leaders Summit, initiated by the female factor (Huge shout out to co-founders Tanja Sternbauer and Mahdis Gharaei) — women who showed up and spoke up in this episode when I asked them: How do YOU lead with your voice? Without my podcast, I wouldn’t have had the courage to approach each of them. In that way,
