A very clear and non-biased report, exceptionally investigated and produced. The one character that is being investigated by Canada had also fooled US CIA operatives and the Times announce this in every episode. It did not spoil the entire story.

From NYT Editorial: “After an internal review that took more than two months, The New York Times has determined that “Caliphate,” its award-winning 2018 podcast, did not meet the standards for Times journalism…. The Times found that “Caliphate” gave too much credence to the false or exaggerated accounts of one of its main subjects, Shehroze Chaudhry…. In the absence of firmer evidence, “Caliphate” should have been substantially revised to exclude the material related to Mr. Chaudhry. The podcast as a whole should not have been produced with Mr. Chaudhry as a central narrative character.”

I listened to this when it was first released and thought it was great. However, I’m so disappointed the Times hasn’t removed it given that it was proven to be fabricated.

Why did she bring garbage bags to the front line ? Could the Taliban also use free garbage bags? Why did this fail editorial scrutiny and fact checking?
