I love the conversations that Louis and Derrick have about the history of sports and race. They have engaging dialogue and share deep knowledge about different aspects of the Black struggle in sports. My one issue is that they primarily focus on football and basketball with an occasional discussion on individual sports (tennis, golf), baseball, and events like the Olympics. Unfortunately, sports that Black athletes play where they are few in numbers such as hockey and baseball or global sports like soccer, although there is a rich history of race in all these sports, are rarely discussed.

Im so glad you bros did this episode. I live near Austin and have been thinking about the whole issue with the song. As I was scanning the podverse to see who was talking about it, it wasn’t a lot of representation if you know what I mean. And the next day this drops. So glad to hear it from y’all’s perspective. Love listening to the podcast because it contains substances that is often left out when stories are told in the mainstream media. I’ve been following these sports historians for quite some time and it’s great to hear them on the same podcast. We live in a hyper-media world and often lose sight of the historical context of many of the sacrifices and events that have occurred for black athletes, it’s nice to be reminded of how current events are shaped by past experiences. Can’t wait to hear more from these two brilliant historians.
