As a result, your chronic pain may reduce, your energy can increase, you may start sleeping better, you are more calm and present, and — your anxiety can significantly reduce! I’ve seen ALL of these improvements in my own experience and that’s why I’m so passionate to share these somatic tools that have helped me, with you as well. So, if you’d like to join me on thi s4-week LIVe experience, sign up here: https://kerstenkimura.lpages.co/somatic-soulwork/ Yesterday, I got a great question about somatic work: “When you are moving your body and doing the somatic work, isn’t it the same thing as trying to get rid of the sensations? At the same time, isn’t it true that we need to accept and allow all our sensations and emotions?” I really loved this question and in today’s episode I share with you what the difference is between forcing your feelings and sensations away, and tending to them somatically. Tune in! 368. Why the Advice “Just Sit With Your Anxiety” Hasn’t Helped You

BRAND NEW LIVE PROGRAM STARTING DECEMBER 22! Somatic Soulwork: Learn more and sign up here: https://kerstenkimura.lpages.co/somatic-soulwork/ You may have heard the advice “You need to sit with your anxiety” when you feel anxious and aren’t able to focus. You may have tried to get still and quiet when anxiety hits, but with no results. It’s hard to keep your mind off the to-do list and deadlines, and even though you try so hard to make your mind calm, you just can’t. The reason why this approach — just get calm and sit with anxiety — may not have worked for you is that anxiety is a feeling that is full of intense energy. When you pay attention to your body when you’re anxious, you realize that it doesn’t want to sit still, it wants to move. So my advice is to first MOVE your body in some ways when you feel this anxiety energy in you. It can look like shaking, tapping, bouncing or even walking. And once you have discharged that intense energy, you can then move on to more quietness and stillness. This is one part that I teach in my new live program, Somatic Souwork! We’re going to do different somatic practices to help release intense anxiety and other difficult emotions from the body. It’s not about forcing them away but it’s about allowing them to express themselves. If you’d like to join, please do it NOW! Enrollment is open until Saturday 12/21 evening and we get started on Sunday, 12/22. All details and sign up here: https://kerstenkimura.lpages.co/somatic-soulwork/ Check out my FREE 14-day course Strong + Sensitive, meant for Highly Sensitive People and people with TMS: https://kerstenkimura.lpages.co/ss-14-day-course/ This course combines mindset tools + FREE strength training workouts! Check out my FREE Somatic Expression for Anxiety workshop! Date: December 13th at 5pm PST / 8pm EST, and you can sign up here: https://kerstenkimura.lpages.co/somatics-workshop/ What is the first thought that comes to your mind when you first wake up in the morning? Mine used to be not a thought, but a bunch of thoughts and they were all so full of anxiety, worry and “what if everything goes wrong’s” face screaming in fear And then I continued to think about all the things that I wanted to get done that day. Everything felt so urgent and like “It has to get done NOW”. In addition to constantly racing thoughts, I used to also wake up very early – way earlier than I would have wanted or needed. I was always up at 3:30 or 4:30, my mind racing. Some nights I was able to go back to sleep but many nights not. As a result, the anxiety loop continued because now on top of feeling like I needed to do EVERYTHING, I was just too tired to do it. In today’s episode I share with you 3 important tips that helped me to reduce my morning anxiety. Tune in! Check out my FREE 14-day course Strong + Sensitive, meant for Highly Sensitive People and people with TMS: https://kerstenkimura.lpages.co/ss-14-day-course/ This course combines mindset tools + FREE strength training workouts! 366. Strength Training with Chronic Pain_ Dealing With Setbacks, Life Stress and Injuries

Today’s episode is mostly for those of you who have already started their strength training despite having some TMS chronic pain sensations. And that’s awesome! Strength training is SO important for everyone for both physical and mental health. And this last one is where the main benefit is for people with TMS too: By starting strength training, you are proving to your brain that you are okay and that you are not afraid to move your body! As a result, you are starting to heal faster, as long as you don’t overdo the weights, intensity or duration of your workouts. Sometimes obstacles come up. Here are three situations that I talk about in today’s episode: You made good progress with your training but you had a difficult week and now your sensations went up. You needed to take a week off from your workouts. How can you get back on track? Where should you start? You are having an extremely busy time with work that demands A LOT of your energy. How do you then adjust your workouts and your own expectations? When a new pain shows up, how to know if it’s another TMS sensation or a real injury, and what should you do and what should you avoid in both of these cases? If you haven’t started strength training yet because you have chronic sensations, I highly recommend these two resources: Quiz: What Is Your Biggest Fear That’s Holding You Back From Starting Strength Training? Get it here: https://www.tryinteract.com/share/quiz/66d688efa3d615813fff1b1a 14-day program Strong + Sensitive that combines mindset tools and simple strength training workouts so that you can get started! https://kerstenkimura.lpages.co/ss-14-day-course/ Both of these resources are FREE. 365. Why Does Your Nervous System Feel UNSAFE + How To Create Safety In It

You may have heard that in order to heal from chronic pain and symptoms, you need to create safety in your brain and nervous system. But you might wonder: “Why does my nervous system feel unsafe? I don’t feel unsafe.” That’s right: You may not be in a dangerous situation at all, but your nervous system doesn’t understand it so you may still feel anxious, feel a strong sense of urgency, panic, or pain. Your nervous system speaks a different language, and it may not understand your words when you say that you’re safe. Your nervous system operates differently. And it has its own language that she uses to tell you that it’s not safe. That language can look like this: It's the FEELING of Butterflies in the stomach Tension in the neck Pain in the back Migraine Insomnia Feelings of urgency Depression Anxiety etc. THESE are the signs that tell you that it’s feeling unsafe, and in this episode I teach you 2 tools that you can use to communicate safety to your nervous system, using the language IT understands. In this podcast, I also mention 2 previous episodes that you can check out for somatic practices: For anxiety: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmiknBF5EeU&t=1007s For reducing self-blame and increasing self-acceptance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRadQOekSJ8&t=2s And here are the two Instagram videos where you can do a somatic practice with me. 364. 7 Signs That You’re Making Progress with Chronic Pain Recovery Even If Your Main Symptom Is Still There

When you're dealing with a chronic pain or condition and put in the work to feel better, yet not much is happening, it’s often easy to feel like you're not making progress. But what if you're actually healing, even if your main symptom is still present? In order to recover from chronic pain and other chronic conditions, we need to rebalance our nervous system and create safety in it. So as you keep doing it through various tools, you may notice that before your biggest pain or sensation starts decreasing, some other things are starting to shift first. For example, you may notice that you want to be more social again, while before you hardly ever wanted social connection. You also realize that people are more drawn to you and sometimes people who you don’t know start talking to you! That’s because the energy in you has shifted! You may notice that you take more time with things that you used to just rush through before. For example, if you used to throw together simple meals and eat them really quick, or if you didn’t care much about food at all, now all of a sudden you like to spend more time in the kitchen, get more creative and try different recipes. You may notice that you simply NOTICE more. For example, you go for a walk and you see a lot more than you saw before. You notice more colors, patterns, structures, buildings, trees…. Things that were always there but you never saw them! All this happens because through the healing work you have done, you've created more peace, calm and safety in the nervous system. Your nervous system no longer needs to be on high alert all the time the way it was before (which created your chronic symptoms). It can finally feel more safe and relaxed. There are more examples in today’s episode, so check it out! I would like to hear from you! Comment below and let me know some of the things that you have noticed are improving, even if your main sensation / pain might still be there! 363. If Someone Is Always “Making You Angry”, It’s Time to Check Your Boundaries

Anger is a natural emotion, but when it becomes a constant state, it can signal deeper issues, particularly around personal boundaries. If you find yourself frequently angry, it may be time to examine the boundaries you have set in your life. Boundaries are essential for maintaining emotional health and well-being; they define what is acceptable and what isn’t in our relationships with others. When boundaries are weak or non-existent, it can lead to feelings of being overwhelmed, taken advantage of, or disrespected. These feelings often manifest as anger. For instance, if you consistently say yes to requests that you would prefer to decline, you may begin to harbor resentment towards those who make those demands. This resentment can build up over time, leading to explosive anger when the situation becomes unbearable. Establishing strong boundaries involves understanding your own needs and limits. It requires clear communication with others about what you will and will not tolerate. This can be challenging, especially if you are not used to asserting yourself. However, by setting boundaries, you create a sense of safety in your relationships, which can reduce feelings of frustration and anger. Moreover, strong boundaries foster respect. When others recognize and honor your limits, it can lead to healthier interactions and reduce the likelihood of conflict. It’s important to remember that setting boundaries is not selfish; it is an act of self-care. 362. Are You Struggling to Sleep at Night?

Are you struggling to get good sleep at night? And on top of that, you also have chronic symptoms in the body, like pain and tension even when you know that you haven’t hurt yourself? While it’s common attribute sleepless nights to stress or lifestyle choices, the underlying issue often lies within the nervous system. When your nervous system is hyper-activated, it can lead to a cycle of sleeplessness that becomes difficult to break. If you are dealing with insomnia, the cause is likely that your sympathetic system, also known as the fight or flight system, is often in overdrive, keeping you alert and anxious even when you really want and need to sleep. Chronic hyper-activation can stem from various factors, including stress, anxiety, and lifestyle habits. Being hyper activated during the day makes it challenging to transition into a restful state at night, and that’s why you can’t sleep. To combat insomnia linked to a hyper-activated nervous system, it is essential to take a look at how you are spending your days. Are you always “on”, checking your phone a hundred times a day, overstressed with work, worrying too much about things you can’t change, adding things to your to-do list that actually don’t need to be there? Are you creating yourself more stress than what you can handle? And here’s a biggie… Do you start your day by scrolling your phone which is already next to your bed — because the last thing you did before closing your eyes at night was to check your phone? By understanding the connection between a hyper-activated nervous system and insomnia and doing things that take you out of that constantly elevated sympathetic state during the day, you will also start sleeping better at night.
