Welcome to the Cold Beer Surf Club. Your host is none other than pro surfer, musician, gardener, boat owner, Santa Barbara lifer, and 805 Beer athlete Conner Coffin. In the inaugural episode, he kicks things off with special guest Chris Shiflett, lead guitarist for the Foo Fighters. Despite their different journeys around the globe - Conner on the Championship Tour, Chris on countless rock and roll tours - they connect over tour life, the parties and temptations of youth, the day-to-day toll on your body, and battling nerves. A fellow Santa Barbara local, Chris looks back at starting his career in the SB music scene, the bands that influenced him most, turning his passion into his profession, his first break in the punk band No Use For A Name, and how he joined Foo Fighters. Conner and Chris also nerd out on guitar gear, give some gardening tips, and relive a memorable surf session with Tom Curren and Bobby Martinez.

The Cold Beer Surf Club welcomes in guest Chris Malloy, surfer, filmmaker, and one-third of one of surfing’s most notable families. Host Conner Coffin and Chris dive into some of the surf movies Chris has helped create over the years, including “September Sessions” and “Thicker Than Water,” which first inspired Conner, gave him the urge to travel, and truly captured the essence of surf culture. They look back through Chris’s career in surfing and dissect the things that most set him apart, how he carved his own path, and how he charged every heavy spot from the Pipeline and Waimea Bay to Mavericks and Mullaghmore. The two surfers also discuss the responsibility of teaching kids how to go through the world, fishing trips with family, how the Central Coast of California impacted them both, and advice for today’s young surfers.

805 born and bred professional surfer Sage Erickson joins the Cold Beer Surf Club. Sage discusses life post the Championship Tour, and re-falling in love with surfing as she finds the truest version of herself. She talks about being able to take a step back to focus on maintaining healthy habits and relationships, traveling with her husband, and where she wants to visit next. She and Conner reflect back on moments in the tour, sharing untold stories, and discuss which jobs they would take if they weren’t professional surfers. They connect over their mutual appreciation for their hometown and the life they were able to live as part of the tour, reflecting on the challenges, rewards, and opportunities along the way. Finally, Sage gives her advice to young, aspiring groms and reveals her top pick for the best chicken tenders in America.

Professional surfer, fellow 805 charger, and brother to our host, Parker Coffin joins the Cold Beer Surf Club. Parker and Conner reminisce on what it was like growing up in the 805 and talk about the solid crew they came up with. They get into the details of charging the massive Cloudbreak swell this year, how lucky they felt to be part of the crew that went on the trip, and being content with the possibility of dying during this once-in-a-lifetime swell. They discuss life on and off the competitive tour, Volcom House memories, and reflect on the importance of respect and what it was like as a grom to learn from the epicenter of surfing in Hawaii. They talk about what success means to them in the changing surf industry landscape, being a part of upcoming projects like Logan Dullien’s Snapt5, recovering from gnarly injuries, wearing helmets, and doing whatever it takes to come home. They close off the pod with what’s next for the young brothers and some advice for the groms.
