Season 3: Ep. 58 with The Mind Behind the Design of Designers Brew- Brett McPherson
I had a "pinch me" moment while recording this episode with Brett McPherson, the owner & brilliant mind behind the design of Designers Brew. Her name has literally been on my vision board for years and after getting to visit with her, I'm even more confident that she is THE gal I want helping design our dream home one day. Brett shares how her love for Interior Design began, how she manages her career as wife & mother of three, and some really cool opportunities brewing at Designers Brew- like being able to shop a Made in the USA collection of furniture & home goods with Designers Brew very soon.

On this episode, it was my absolute pleasure to visit with Karoline Rose- Founder & CEO of KRose Company & Cattleman U- on topics like Why We Need Creative Women in Ranching as well as How to Set & Reach Goals for Your Life & Ranch. Karoline is on a mission to show ranchers- specifically ranch women- how valuable their creative side is on the ranch. She believes that empowering women on the operation is the best way to ensure the operation continues on for the next generation, and that's what her and her team do at Cattleman U. Season 4: Ep 56 Reflecting on Hardship, Love, Kindness & a Beautiful Friendship with my Aunt Steph- Stephanie Smith
“To the world you may be one person; But to one person you may be the world.” ~ Dr. Seuss.
We never really know the difference we can make in another person's life by simply pausing long enough to listen. We also never know how we might be spurred to action once we recognize there is a need to be met. On this episode, I visit with Stephanie Smith (who I lovingly call Aunt Steph). Stephanie is a wife, mom of triplets, career woman & animal lover that calls Montgomery, Alabama home. She is also one of my dearest friends & greatest cheerleaders.
We unpack how one decision my mom, Pam, made many years ago led to a beautiful friendship that has richly blessed our entire family. It's a story that began due to hardship, and there have been many life lessons learned along the way. While we never wish hardship on those we love, if it hadn't been for that hardship early on in my Aunt Steph's life- the story shared on this episode wouldn't exist. The story continues to unfold decades later- filled to the brim with endless amounts of support, love & kindness. I'm forever changed because of it & grateful I get to be part of it.
I pray this episode encourages you to slow down, love harder, be kind, laugh more, give the gift of time to those who matter most, make memories & share those stories. You'll be glad you did- trust me.
Please Contact Stephanie if her story blessed you via Facebook @ Stephanie Smith & or leave a podcast review.

SEASON 4: Ep. 55- 6 Life Skills The IPRA Equipped Me With That Make A Winning Combination Both In & Out Of The Arena
Each January, the International Professional Rodeo Association holds the International Finals Rodeo where the Top 15 cowboys & cowgirls in each event gather to compete for World titles. It has been 13 years since I first joined the IPRA family as Miss Rodeo USA, and 11 years since I had the opportunity to be part of rodeo history as one of the 15 qualifiers competing in the Cowgirls Breakaway Roping at IFR42. With each year that passes, I gain a deeper appreciation of the experiences I had by simply choosing to first bet on myself- which meant pursuing my dream of becoming Miss Rodeo USA. What I learned in the process of preparing to compete about myself, the sport of rodeo and my support system was impactful on many levels. 2010 changed the trajectory of my life (literally- I landed my career and my husband thanks to connections made in that one year). I will be forever grateful to each and every person that made sacrifices in order for me to pursue my dream. {there were many- oh so many}
Thank you to the IPRA for welcoming me with open arms. From rodeo queen to event director to an official timer & a multitude of other unique opportunities along the way to learn & meet incredible people in between-You've always made me feel at home, & It’s been quite the ride!
On this episode, I take a stroll down memory lane and share the 6 Life Skills the IPRA equipped me with that make a winning combination both in & out of the arena.
1. How to Travel (efficiently & cost effectively)
2. Time Management
3. The Art of Making Everybody Feel Like a Somebody
4. Active Listening & Working Well with Others
5. Problem Solving
6. Knowing When to Lean into a Challenge

Season 3: Ep 54- Wonderfully Wild & Western 2022 Recap
This episode is something new that I plan to anniversary at the end of each podcast season. The Wonderfully Wild & Western 2022 Recap came about in short from me taking time to pause, reflect & deep dive into journaling about what this past year not only looked like- but felt like. 2022 was full of challenges & heartache for me & my family - but we also experienced immense joy, new adventures, growth & miracles on this side of Heaven. Producing & hosting this podcast continues to be a bright spot in my life, & I am grateful for your support in helping further the podcast's Cowgirl State of Mind mission.

Season 3: Ep 53- Adoptee, Adoptive Mother & Author Christina Black shares her adoption journey and NEW BOOK "Two Grandpas & a Truck"
The timing couldn't have been more perfect for our guest Christina Black to share her story. November is recognized as National Adoption Awareness Month & Christina's new book "Two Grandpas & a Truck" that shares part of her family's adoption story was recently published as well.
Christina is an adoptee. A title she shares first because it has made her who she is today and clearly defined family for her. And that is to love & be loved by others.
She is a wife. Married to her high school sweetheart. They were both born and raised in Mound City, KS and recently moved to Des Moines, Iowa area for a job promotion.
She is a momma. By adoption and biologically. Her trio is beautifully and wonderfully made, and she does not take for granted what an incredible gift it is to be their momma.
She is a writer and now published author. Not intentionally at first. But her thoughts and experiences through adoption led her to her first ever children's book about adoption and family.
She is a believer. In Jesus and the work he can do with open hands and a grace filled heart.

Episode 58!
My favorite quote to date from all the episodes would have to be… “The cowgirl state of mind is not taking no for an answer!” Brett sure said it well there. I love Dakota’s genuine way of connecting with each of her guests she brings to her show! Can’t wait for more episodes!
Episode 56- Authenticity at it’s finest
Wow!! I dearly loved this podcast. This authentic story is extra moving to my heart. I feel that I know more about Pam Missildine, and have a glimpse of the gift of friendship and connection in her family. What a sweet blessing she was and her legacy lives on in those she cared deeply about.
My New Favorite
The Cowgirl Confessions podcast is like having coffee with your best friend. Dakota and her guests put you on the path to be a better version of yourself.
