Cross-Cultural Dating

My experience of dating a Chinese guy for the first time has been so different from my experiences of dating in the West. He was so wonderful and amazing in so many ways; yet, it was also heartbreaking in so many ways. Navigating a cross-cultural relationship has revealed the differences in dating norms, pace, and mindset in looking at the various factors considered when choosing a partner. Factors that are less emphasized in Western culture. Chinese culture, in particular, places a much stronger emphasis on adhering to certain family and societal expectations, which partly influenced our decision to part ways. This experience has deepened my compassion for those who may struggle to reconcile personal desires with family and cultural pressures. And strengthened my belief that it's time to move beyond outdated beliefs and practices—not just for ourselves, but for future generations as well. I envision a society where individuals have more freedom and support to choose for themselves what is truly best for their happiness, well-being, growth, and fulfillment.
