Husky Talk- Sean Rabinowitz - Part 2

Husky Talk- Sean Rabinowitz - Part 2

The best podcast host in the Universe is back a new episode of Husky Talk with guest Sean Rabinowitz, who I have a blast conversing with. He keeps it real, and we truly had a great episode.

Sean is back by popular demand to talk about a little bit of everything. We hit on Coach Dan Hurley deciding to stay in Storrs and Sean is happy as a UConn fan to see our team go for a 3 peat, which would be the first since the 70's.

He also looks at it from the other side, it's the LA Lakers, a legendary franchise with Lebron James, what more could you want? We discuss Caitlin Clark being left off the Olympic team and he shares his thoughts.

We talk about work/life balance, the influence of his parents in developing work ethic. How he dedicated himself to building his career and own business. At times now, kids graduating college expect 6 figure paying jobs. Sean remembers starting off at 28K a year and the hard work that pays off in the end. UConn's future in athletics and how without a conference for football, it will be a challenge to get into the black for a public University without a major television contract.

Sean is a fantastic guest and I love being able to talk about many different topics. We may try to set up a regular episode with him. Whether monthly or biweekly, never a dull moment and always entertaining.

Thank you to Matt Nuzie, Geoff Heyl, Kyle Muncy, Erika Higgins and Jeff Larsen for donating to Husky Talk. We are able to record more episodes and upload them faster. Any contribution is appreciated, Venmo @Husky-Talk, last 4 digits 9729. We are grateful for all the support, and we have only just begun.

Sean shares his feeling on UConn Alumni affairs and believes we can do better. He has spoken at UConn a few times and wants to make a difference. Sean reflects on how all of us were family and supported each other. He has gone on to selling insurance and then starting his own business. Its never easy but it's his baby and he has been very successful.

Thank you for your support of Husky Talk starting with Sean and his donation. Matt Nuzie, Geoff Heyl, Kyle Muncy and Tommy Collins, I appreciate your donations. Husky Talk- Nicki Marie

    Husky Talk- Nicki Marie

A truly bombastic Husky Talk with the very successful Nicki Marie of Nicki Unplugged as our guest. She was a dominate field hockey player at UConn and was nice enough to come on the show, produced by Erika Higgins.

Nicki excelled as a three-sport athlete in high school doing field hockey, indoor track and softball. Attending camp at UConn, along with her official visit secured her to commit and become a Husky. She does believe softball was her best sport and also was a two-time state champion in the Shotput for Indoor track.

At UConn, she redshirted before becoming at 3-year starter even after switching positions for coach Nancy. Her teams made it to the Final 4 as a junior and senior. Nicki was an outstanding player and learned by watching the upperclassmen.

We talk about her several careers out of college before COVID hitting and starting Nicki Unplugged. It originated on Tic Tok and Nicki uses Instagram because it offers many features. Being a single mom after a recent divorce, she is an incredible content creator. Nicki is devoted to her children; they play sports and do well in school.

I give Nicki all the credit in the world, betting on herself, becoming a content creator, growing her audience, building a brand and being extremely successful. I said she has amazing talent, and her fans will continue coming back. Nicki will grow new followers because of her hilarious personality and ability to entertain. Thank you, Erika, for setting up the interview, thank you Nicki for coming on my little podcast and I appreciate the advice!

Husky Talk is taking off and becoming a home for UConn Alumni to share their stories and show our success off the field. Anyone who would like to contribute, we are now accepting donations. This allows us an opportunity to do more shows. We want to hear from UConn athletes from as many generations as possible. To donate, please Venmo @Husky-Talk, last 4 digits 9729. We will promote you, and your business during the show. I am beyond grateful for everyone's support. Thank you to Matt Nuzie, Geoff Heyl, Kyle Muncy, Tommy Collins, and Erika Higgins for donating.

    Moneyline- Maria Conlon

    Moneyline- Maria Conlon

I was blown away this week when Connecticut and UConn legend Maria Conlon, CLF®agreed to be a guest on the most popular sports show in Worcester with the largest audience, MONEYLINE. Only on WUTY 97.9 Unity Radio at 7pm TONIGHT! Creating original content that is local and addresses issues daily not being covered by the T&G or other stations in the city.Maria was a special talent early on She is the pride and joy of Derby, Connecticut, however, her parents put her in Seymour public schools hoping for the best. In the early to mid 90's there were not a lot of girls playing sports and from 4th to 8th grade, Maria played on the boys' team. From there, she started playing against girls on the varsity squad in 9th grade which led to 2 state championships. Her teams were not as talented junior and senior year. Maria still was the best player on the court, she was a facilitator getting her teammates involved and she was a sniper as a shooter. Coming to UConn as the State player of the year was a unique transition. Sue Bird, Diana Taurasi, Shea Ralph, Asjha Jones, Tamicka Williams-Jeter, Swin Cash, you have the Olympic National team as competition. Maria said she could have gone to Penn State and put-up bigger numbers but winning was most important. Maria laughed when I said she had quickness, I was referring to her release of her shot, it was as fast as lightning. Hard working, toughness, grit, a fighter who fought for every second she played, she earned her time on the court. Averaging 5 to7 points a game, 3 assists, shot very good from 3-point range at 38% and Maria was tenacious on defense. We touch on the UConn vs Duke game in 2003 which was #1 vs #2 at the time. Great friend and avid podcast listener Brian Basloe first off, was shocked we were going to drive 655 miles to Duke, secondly shocked we wanted to attend a girls basketball game and third, he promised us not to get him in trouble. To sit in the Duke Student section, all you had to provide was a Duke student ID, which Brian rounded up for us. We had UConn gear underneath our clothes. I had Diana's practice jersey, Ed has Ashley Valleys on, and we picked up our friend Dan Circelli who had Sue Birds jersey on. The game starts, we reveal ourselves to be UConn fans sitting with the Cameron Crazies, and it was wild. UConn was up by 20 at halftime and I was heckling Duke fans saying. "I drove 600 miles for a blowout" while Ed was more conventional calling them all NERDS. I mean, if an hour before the game you are handing out sheets of paper with taunts on them for practice, it is nerdy. An entertaining show with a guest I love, am proud of, and admire. She works for a wealth management firm, owns a CrossFit gym. owns a restaurant. Won a National Title at Southern Connecticut State. Coached for Notre Dame before recently taking a job Green Farms Academy. Don't miss MONEYLINE on 97.9 FM Unity Radio at 7pm TONIGHT! https://wuty.org/

    Moneyline-Kelly Virkler

    Moneyline-Kelly Virkler

All new episode on Moneyline on 97.9 Unity Radio, Executive Producer Ernie Flyod, the best sports show in Worcester today. We talk about all the major news in sports and have a fantastic episode this week.

Kelly Greene is our special guest and did an outstanding job bringing a different perspective for our listeners. She is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Board Certified National Counselor and Licensed Hypnotherapist. She was able to offer unique insight on the Grayson Murray suicide.

We talk briefly about the Celtics sweeping the Pacers and are clearly the best team in the league. Dallas is taking care of business in Minnesota in the West which will make for a fierce battle for the title.

Kelly discusses Grayson Murray and offers condolences to their family. Not knowing all the information, she did not want to speculate, but understands the pressures of sports, along with expectations can be difficult to handle. Athletes, men in general are less likely to ask for help, if you see someone struggling, encourage them to talk to an expert.

We mention the Harrison Butker speech and how he clearly had an agenda that was not typical for a commencement ceremony. Kelly shares about how she is inclusive to everyone. If women choose to be stay at home mom's, if they choose to have careers, she supports their decisions. Men telling women how they should live their lives is inappropriate.

At the end, we discuss Jason Kelce and CTE. Kelly has first hand experience seeing symptoms in myself this past year. Kelly has been very special to me and did an outstanding job co-hosting the episode. Don't miss Moneyline, only on 97.9 Unity Radio.
