Cut it Out! Collage & Papercraft Conversations

I listened to my first episode today. I was interested in learning more about the Cut Out festival. I loved hearing all about what is happening in Ukraine. Amazing artist coming together, connecting, creating, sharing their work - even when circumstances seemingly do not allow. The moderator of the show is really annoying to listen to. I had expected to feel resonance and connection between interviewer/interviewee. This ain’t that. On one than more occasion he was asking questions that were actually suggestions disguised as questions. And, the questions were so centered on the US context with an underlying US ideology that situates us as needed to help everyone else with their problems. I suggest the moderator show up in inquiry and de-center his own perspective with the understanding that it is one of many from across the world. Open ended questions allow the moderator and the listener to learn more from an expansive point of view vs. answering the narrow questions asked from the moderator’s limited view. And, when resilience, connective people in other parts of the world are sharing the light and brilliance they bring into dark times and dark spaces, the moderator should listen, connect and definitely not try to offer “helpful advice” disguised as questions unless requested to do so. Each of the advice questions you asked assumed they have not/had not already thought of the idea prior to you entering the scene.
