    Ep. 49. Sharon Arteaga - Filmmaker, Director, Austin Film Society

    Sharon Arteaga is a first-generation Mexican-American filmmaker from Corpus Christi, Texas, who convinced her mom to buy her a video camera instead of a Quinceañera. Included in NALIP’s 2019 List of Latinx Directors to Know, Arteaga has won numerous short film competitions including the 2021 HBO Latinx short Film Competition. Arteaga was a 2019 Tribeca Chanel Through Her Lens finalist for her short screenplay IN TOW, which also won runner up at the 2020 New Orleans Film Festival South Pitch, was a Semifinalist in ScreenCraft’s Film Fund and most recently, was awarded the 2021 Mexican-American Cultural Education Foundation Filmmaker Grant. Arteaga is currently developing her first feature film. She is also a passionate educator who loves empowering others to also tell their stories through film.     Mary Dauterman is a writer-director. She is a Film Independent Screenwriting and Fast Track Fellow. Her debut feature, a body horror comedy called Booger, premiered at Fantasia Film Festival in 2023 and was supported by Tribeca Creators Market and Film Independent. She has written and directed projects for Adult Swim, published kids books that aren’t for kids, directed some decent commercials, and co-invented a viral beach accessory, The Tortilla Towel (TM). A creative alum from Wieden + Kennedy, Droga5, and CP+B, she was recognized as an ADC Young Gun for her body of work. Born and raised in Hawaii, he instantly fell in love with the way stories could be told through film at just 5 years old. After college in 2018, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a film career and have worked on commercials, features, shorts, podcasts, and countless other artistic mediums. He currently pay the bills as a freelance VFX artist. Kai recently gained global media attention for his viral fan edit of the six-part Obi-Wan Kenobi show on Disney+, which he edited down into a single 2.5-hour movie.
