As the parent of a high school sexual assault survivor with a pending tittle IX case this is an important issue. Parents of K12 students don’t know about this civil rights law and the adults in k12 schools tasked to keep students safe, ensure education free from discrimination which includes sexual harassment don’t either it’s a problem. Looking forward to future episodes hope you include K12 space.
Respondent training programs
2021/04/28
I’d love to hear your thoughts, as well as best practices, on developing training tailored to respondents. Many complainants have shared that they don’t want to go through a formal investigation, but want to ensure respondents understand what they did, why it was harmful, and prevent repeat offenses. Community-based offender programs are often not designed with college students in mind so they’re not always relatable and relevant to college students’ experiences with respect to parties, alcohol and other drugs, peer pressure, fitting in, and your typical campus culture. What works for college-age respondents, who can/should do this type of training, and are there good models/curricula that universities are currently using? And to be clear, I’m not talking about restorative justice practices...I’m talking about tailored trainings for offenders. Thanks!
