Virginia Satir - We need four hugs a day for survival. We need eight hugs a day for maintenance. We need twelve hugs a day for growth

The Daily Quote podcast page The Great News Podcast page The Great News Letter Voicemail feedback line – 1-877-636-1474 CONTACT ME Welcome to The Daily Quote—a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I’m your host, Andrew McGivern, for February 12th. Now, before we get into today’s quote, let’s talk about a simple act that can lower stress, boost your immune system, and even improve your heart health. No, it’s not a new fitness craze or some bizarre wellness trend—it’s hugging. That’s right—today is National Hug Day, and science says that wrapping your arms around someone (or letting them do the same to you) comes with some serious health benefits. Studies show that hugging releases oxytocin, also known as the “love hormone,” which helps lower cortisol levels, reducing stress and anxiety. It also increases serotonin and dopamine—those feel-good chemicals that can help fight depression. And if that’s not enough, hugging has been linked to lower blood pressure, a stronger immune system, and even pain relief. Basically, it’s nature’s way of keeping you healthy—no prescription required. So whether you’re a bear-hugger, a side-hugger, or a quick-pat-on-the-back kind of person, don’t underestimate the power of an embrace. Now, in honor of National Hug Day, today’s quote comes from the great poet and author Virginia Satir, who said: “We need four hugs a day for survival. We need eight hugs a day for maintenance. We need twelve hugs a day for growth.” So, according to this wisdom, if you’re feeling a little stuck in life, the solution might not be a new self-help book or another cup of coffee—it might just be more hugs. Survival, maintenance, and growth—who knew the secret to success was literally within arm’s reach? So today, go find someone you care about and give them a good, solid hug. It’s free, it’s scientifically proven to boost happiness, and let’s be honest—who couldn’t use a little extra warmth these days? That’s it for The Daily Quote. Thanks for spending part of your day with me. If you enjoyed today’s episode, don’t forget to subscribe and share it with someone who could use a hug (even if it’s a virtual one). Def Leppard - It's better to burn out than fade away

The Daily Quote podcast page The Great News Podcast page The Great News Letter Voicemail feedback line – 1-877-636-1474 CONTACT ME Welcome to The Daily Quote—a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, for February 11th. National Guitar Day. That’s right—today we celebrate one of the greatest instruments ever invented. Whether it’s acoustic, electric, or even air guitar (no judgment), there’s something special about the sound of six strings being strummed, shredded, or—if you’re just starting out—painfully plucked. Now, full disclosure: my daughter plays the guitar, and she can rock out a pretty great Def Leppard song or two. And, just for the record, this is totally not my influence. Nope, not at all. Just a completely independent musical journey that somehow led her straight into the glorious riffs of Switch 625, Let it Go and maybe soon... Pour Some Sugar on Me. Which brings me to today’s quote, straight from the legendary Def Leppard: Def Leppard once said... actually not just once but thousands of times, "It's better to burn out than fade away." – from Rock of Ages Now, before you get worried—no, I’m not suggesting you go out in a blaze of glory. But there’s something to be said about giving it your all. Whether it’s music, work, or even just learning a new skill, putting passion into what you do is what makes it worth doing. Play like nobody’s listening (or like 80,000 people are), go all in, and don’t hold back. So, whether you play guitar, air guitar, or just appreciate a good solo, take a moment today to crank up your favorite song. And if you happen to have a guitar lying around, why not pick it up and give it a go? Worst case—you scare the pets. Best case—you unleash your inner rock legend. Or Jazz, pop, country or whatever your jam is. That’s it for today! Thanks for tuning in to The Daily Quote. If this episode struck a "chord" with you (see what I did there?), share it with a friend—especially one who has great taste in music like my daughter! Until next time, and there will be a next time (if you know where that comes from you are a true Leppard fan). And I'll see you tomorrow, same pod time, same pod station for another Daily Quote.

Albert Einstein - Out of clutter, find simplicity. From discord, find harmony. In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity

The Daily Quote podcast page The Great News Podcast page The Great News Letter Voicemail feedback line – 1-877-636-1474 CONTACT ME Welcome to The Daily Quote—a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, for February 10th. Today is National Clean Out Your Computer Day. Yep, it’s the day we’re supposed to clear out those ancient files, delete blurry vacation photos we'll never share, and maybe uninstall the software that is taking up space on your hard drive for years without ever being used. And while we’re on the subject of clearing things out, let’s give an honorable mention to Sick of Food Waste Day. Because really, why stop at your computer? If you’re decluttering your hard drive, why not also tackle that mystery container in the back of your fridge? You know the one—the science experiment you keep avoiding. That brings us to today’s quote from Albert Einstein, who once said, "Out of clutter, find simplicity. From discord, find harmony. In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity." Now, Einstein probably wasn’t talking about your messy PC desktop or that expired yogurt, but the principle applies. When we clear out the junk—whether it’s digital, physical, or mental—we create space for better things. A clean computer runs faster. A clean fridge smells better and makes cooking more enjoyable... if you don't have to throw out key ingredients that aren't supposed to be green. So, here’s your challenge for today: delete your unnecessary files, empty your computer’s trash bin (because we all know digital trash is still trash), and while you’re at it, check the expiration dates on your condiments. If your mustard is old enough to vote, it’s time to say goodbye. That’s it for today! Thanks for spending a few minutes with me on The Daily Quote. If this episode inspired you, consider sharing it with a friend. I’ll be back tomorrow, same pod time, same pod station with another daily quote.

C.S. Lewis - You can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me

The Daily Quote podcast page The Great News Podcast page The Great News Letter Voicemail feedback line – 1-877-636-1474 CONTACT ME Welcome to The Daily Quote—a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, for February 9th. Now, let’s talk about today’s holiday: Read a Book in the Bath Day. Yes, that’s a real thing. Finally, an excuse to soak in a warm tub and pretend you're being productive. It’s a day dedicated to relaxation, self-care, and—if you’re feeling particularly daring—risky page-turning. Because let’s be honest, dropping your book in the water is a rite of passage. If you haven't done it at least once, are you even living? Since today is all about unwinding with a good book, I’ve chosen a quote from the great C.S. Lewis, the mind behind The Chronicles of Narnia. He once said: "You can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me."Now, let’s just swap out the tea for a bubble bath, and we’re right on theme. Lewis perfectly captured the feeling of getting lost in a good book—the kind that makes you lose track of time, ignore your responsibilities, and, in today’s case, turn into a human prune in the tub. There’s something magical about books and water—whether it’s a bath, a beach, or a rainy day by the window. They transport you somewhere else while you remain perfectly still. And honestly, in a world that constantly demands movement, that’s a rare and beautiful thing. So today, take the time to slow down. Run the bath, grab a book, and enjoy the simple pleasure of words and warm water. Just… maybe keep a towel nearby. Because once you drop a book in the tub, no amount of drying is going to make those pages the same again. That’s it for today’s episode of The Daily Quote. Thanks for spending a few minutes with me. Napoleon Hill - Success comes to those who become success conscious

The Daily Quote podcast page The Great News Podcast page The Great News Letter Voicemail feedback line – 1-877-636-1474 CONTACT ME Welcome to The Daily Quote—a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, for February 8th. Now, did you know that today is Laugh and Get Rich Day? Yes, that’s a real thing. It’s a day that encourages you to embrace humor, positivity, and, ideally, turn that good energy into financial success. Now, before you go out and try to pay your rent with dad jokes, let’s talk about what this really means. It’s not about laughing your way to the bank like some kind of financial supervillain. It’s about the power of a positive mindset—how optimism, joy, and a little bit of humor can open doors, build relationships, and ultimately lead to success. And that brings us to today’s quote from none other than Napoleon Hill, the author of Think and Grow Rich: Success comes to those who become success conscious.” Hill was all about the power of thought—the idea that what you focus on, you attract. And that’s exactly why Laugh and Get Rich Day makes sense. If you approach life with stress, negativity, and a permanent frown, people notice. But when you bring enthusiasm, optimism, and yes, even a little humor, opportunities ha406ve a way of finding you. Think about the most successful people you know—chances are, they know how to connect, how to uplift others, and how to find joy in the process. Whether you’re networking, pitching an idea, or just trying to get through a Monday, a good laugh can break the ice, lighten the mood, and even make you more persuasive. So today, take Napoleon Hill’s advice—become success conscious. Picture the life you want, carry yourself with confidence, and don’t be afraid to laugh along the way. Because if success really does come to those who think about it… well, wouldn’t it be nice if it showed up with a good sense of humor too? That’s it for today’s Daily Quote. If you enjoyed this episode, share it with someone who could use a little extra positivity—and maybe a good joke. I I'll be back tomorrow, same pod time, same pod station - with another Daily Quote.

Mark Twain - Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence on society

Welcome to The Daily Quote—a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, for February 7th. Now, today is Working Naked Day. Yes, that’s an actual thing. And before you start freaking out about having to go to work naked... unless you are supposed to be naked for your work... I'm not going there though. The actual meaning ow Work Naked Day is a celebration of the freedom that comes with working from home—where business casual can mean whatever you want it to mean. It’s about ditching the ties, the stiff collars, and yes, even the pants, if you so choose. So, in honor of today’s theme of shedding unnecessary restrictions, let’s go with this quote from Mark Twain, who once said... "Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence on society."Now, Twain was a master of wit, but let’s be honest—if he lived in the age of remote work, he might have reconsidered this one. Sure, showing up to a board meeting in nothing but confidence might not be the best career move, but when you’re working from home? Comfort is king. The truth is, clothes do have an impact on how we’re perceived, but they don’t define who we are. The modern workplace is changing, and the old idea that you have to wear a suit to be productive is kind of falling apart—just like those dress pants you haven’t worn since 2019. So, whether you celebrate Work Naked Day by fully embracing it (responsibly, of course) or just by swapping the button-down for a hoodie, remember this—success isn’t about what you wear, it’s about what you do. And if you can do it comfortably, more power to you. I had an interview recently and my wife thought it was hilarious that I was wearing a dress shirt and sports coat with jogging pants... I mean on a Zoom call nobody can see your pants, right? That’s it for today’s episode of The Daily Quote. If you enjoyed today’s show, don’t forget to subscribe and share it with someone who could use a Daily Quote. I’ll be back tomorrow, same pod time, same pod station - for another Daily Quote.

Winston Churchill - A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty

The Daily Quote podcast page The Great News Podcast page The Great News Letter Voicemail feedback line – 1-877-636-1474 CONTACT ME Welcome to The Daily Quote—a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and I'm happy you are here with me today. Now, today is Optimist Day—a day dedicated to looking on the bright side, finding silver linings, and believing that good things are always just around the corner. You know, the kind of attitude that drives pessimists absolutely crazy. Haha, I'm looking at you Mauricio. And in honor of Optimist Day, today’s quote comes from none other than Winston Churchill, who once said: "A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty."Now, Churchill wasn’t exactly known for sugarcoating things. He led Britain through some of its darkest days, so if anyone had an excuse to be a pessimist, it was him. But instead, he chose to see challenges as stepping stones, not roadblocks. And that’s really what optimism is about—not ignoring problems, but refusing to be defeated by them. Think about it—life throws curveballs all the time. You can either stand there and complain that it is unfair, or you can step up to the plate and take your best swing. The optimist believes they can hit a home run, even if they’ve struck out a few times before. The pessimist? Well, they’re still in the dugout, muttering about how the pitcher is out to get them. So today, on Optimist Day, challenge yourself to see the opportunity in difficulty. Maybe that setback is actually a setup for something better. Maybe that rejection is just redirection. And maybe—just maybe—things are about to turn out even better than you imagined. I've been accused of being too optimistic... and I must admit I am a self proclaimed cornucopian. But I try my best to see things as they really are, not worse than they are. And that is the trap that pessimists fall into they see things worse than they actually are. Or they see a temporary crisis as permanent. Or they believe that things are gradually getting worse and worse over time... when in reality the opposite is true. I can see you shaking your head.... no not you! You know who you are. That’s it for today’s episode of The Daily Quote. If this brought a little optimism to your morning, consider sharing it with someone who might need it. Until next time, and there will be a next time... keep looking for the opportunities—because they’re there, even if they’re playing hard to get. And I'll be back tomorrow, same pod time, same pod station - with another Daily Quote.

Will Rogers - Everything is funny, as long as it is happening to somebody else

The Daily Quote podcast page The Great News Podcast page The Great News Letter Voicemail feedback line – 1-877-636-1474 CONTACT ME Welcome to The Daily Quote—a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, for February 5th. Now, hold your breath—because today we have a truly fragrant occasion... National Fart Day! That’s right—an entire day dedicated to nature’s little air horns. Whether you find them hilarious, horrifying, or something in between, there’s no denying that farts are a universal experience. Everyone does it. Some people try and control it and others... embrace the dark side of the fart. Whether you call it breaking wind, passing gas, floating an air biscuit or "stepping on a duck," farts have been making people laugh (or gag) since the dawn of time. So, today’s quote comes from the one and only Will Rogers, who once said: "Everything is funny, as long as it is happening to somebody else."And let’s be real—this perfectly applies to farts. When you let one slip in a quiet room? Pure horror. But when someone else does? Comedy gold. It’s a universal truth: bodily mishaps are always funniest when you’re not the one responsible. But there’s a deeper lesson here—beyond the immature giggles. Life is full of awkward, embarrassing moments. And while it’s easy to laugh at someone else’s misfortune, it’s important to remember that, at some point, you’re going to be the one caught off guard. So why not learn to laugh at yourself, too? Embrace the humor in life’s little accidents, whether it’s a mistimed joke, a bad hair day, or, yes, a surprise fart. And pro tip - If your friend accidentally lets one rip and is completely embarrassed and horrified.. Help your buddy out by squeezing out one of your own. It will get your friend off the hook and bonus points if it is louder and funnier sounding too. So today, celebrate National Fart Day with a light heart and maybe keep a little distance from others. Some people might be taking this day a little too seriously. And remember—what’s embarrassing today might just be hilarious tomorrow. That’s it for today! Thanks for listening and I'll see you tomorrow, same pod time, same pod station for another Daily Quote.
