Defying the Odds: Phil Dunlap's Journey to Becoming a Three-Time Comeback Athlete The Brittney Mack Podcast

    • Society & Culture

On this episode, we'll hear the remarkable story of Phil Dunlap, a 60-year-old lifelong vegan athlete who has won titles in kickboxing and mixed martial arts. Despite a car accident that left him with a fractured neck and doctors told him he'd never do anything physical again, Phil rehabbed his body and created The Asylum Fight Gym to teach the Kachin Systems of fighting. He also made a stunning comeback to combat in his mid-30s and again in his 50s, engaging in professional grappling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu events and winning multiple titles. We'll learn about Phil's view that money should not be a barrier to training and doing something you enjoy, and how he offers free sessions to the general public. Finally, we'll look at Phil's legacy as a recognized lineage holder in the Kachin arts of Northern Burma, a tradition in which he was raised and encouraged to fight from a young age.
