There's so much to learn about the incredible research going on around the world into improving safety and resilience of communities as they face natural hazards. This show has a well-curated stream of guests, is very timely in its coverage of current events, and is filling a cool niche. The content can be a bit heavy sometimes if seismic engineering, storm surge modeling, and the like aren't your cup of tea (certainly a strong cup of tea), but this podcast is deeply fascinating.

This is a review specifically of the episode in which Prof. Clint Dawson was interviewed about storm surge forecasting for Hurricane Harvey, but I have listened to and enjoyed a few other episodes. These podcasts are great because they link directly to the researchers and let them describe, in their own words, what they are studying and how it can improve public safety during and after natural hazards. Prof. Dawson described how he became interested in modeling of coastal flooding, and then his efforts to provide real-time forecasts to the Texas State Operations Center. They provide forecasts every 6 hours as the storm is approaching Texas. It is great to hear about this connection between research and operations, especially because the moderator allowed time for Prof. Dawson to give a full explanation. Definitely recommend this podcast to listeners who are interested in research about natural hazards.
