Stritmatter Trial Insider: Dinh v Ride The Ducks. An accident, its origins, and its aftermath. A production of Stritmatter Kessler Koehler Moore, and hosted by Sara Bernard. With court testimony, interviews, and archival sound, this podcast pieces together the legal and historical landscape that surrounded the fatal collision between a Ride the Ducks vehicle and a charter bus on September 24, 2015 in Seattle. It explores the months-long trial that ensued and hears from people whose lives will never be the same. But the 2015 crash was not the only duck boat accident. There have been many others across the country and world, a number of them fatal. How do duck boats — repurposed U.S. military vehicles from World War II — sustain so many major accidents and remain in the tourist business? After this and other lawsuits, will they?

You knew Ducks were a problem but...

If you’re like me, you’ve probably heard about a Ride the Ducks tragedy in your neck of the woods — because there have been a lot of them in the past three decades. But you probably never heard why these vehicles are so dangerous outside of their being old. This podcast is an example of the muckraking work done by personal injury lawyers (not a crowd that usually gets much respect) in the wake of a horrific Ducks vs bus full of students crash in Seattle that killed five and injured dozens more.
The great public service of this podcast— which is a promotional product for the law firm that led the trial against the Ducks — is to show how a careful and thorough case is built through documents and depositions. The producer leans on facts for the strongest episodes of this series, showing the fundamentals of why the two Ducks organizations (one in Seattle and one in Missouri) were providing such a dangerous product. It’s like a true crime podcast in that regard, but about white collar crime and intense negligence. But, if you don’t know much about lawyering, you’ll come away better informed about the civil law process too.
