Investigative Journalism Site 'The Fourth's Founder Ian Yee - The First Casualty of War Is the Truth

#media #freespeech #truth  Investigative Journalism Site 'The Fourth's Founder Ian Yee - The First Casualty of War Is the Truth   Underrated, unrecognised and near as invisible to the risks involved, but the work of investigative journalists like Merdeka Award winner Ian Yee and his team at The Fourth (as in the Fourth Estate) are critical to a properly functioning democracy.  Almost like watchdogs, these silent heroes keep tabs on society’s criminals, whether they are corrupt public officials, human traffickers or immoral business people, writing stories and producing content on social media that highlight the transgressions committed by these crooks.  (Many thanks to CITYPlus for their collaboration with The Do More Podcast, in whose studio this conversation was recorded. Researcher/Journalist Aziff Azuddin - Malay Youths Can Co-Exist With Chinese, But Islam Must Reign

#unity #harmony #fightracism Researcher/Journalist Aziff Azuddin - Malay Youths Can Co-Exist With Chinese, But Islam Must Reign The Malay youth were pivotal in Malaysia’s last elections and will only grow in importance in the future thanks to the current state of demographics. Yet do we really know how they think? What drives them, keeps them awake at night, inspires them?  Aziff’s research is a good start in dismantling the silos that Malaysian society has fallen into, a state that has been amplified on and preyed upon by corrupt politicians.  (Many thanks to CITYPlus for their collaboration with The Do More Podcast, in whose studio this conversation was recorded. Movie Producers Rachel Tan & Dan Mark - How Chinese Conquer Racism, Prejudice in Hollywood, USA

#Movies #Hollywood #Racism #Chinese #Entertainment Movie Producers Rachel Tan & Dan Mark - How Chinese Conquer Racism, Prejudice in Hollywood, USA Is it a case of ‘from the frying pan into the fire’? Rachel Tan, a Malaysian ex-beauty queen, lawyer and model and her husband Dan Mark, also a lawyer of Chinese origin, found themselves in America well over a decade ago, after having left their respective homelands to escape racism and prejudice .. only to find America as racist and prejudiced as their own homelands.  However, the question at hand is whether America, whose own success was largely borne from immigrants, is still the land of opportunity. Especially when the industry in question is Entertainment, notoriously one of the most competitive and difficult to conquer.  Some facts to ponder (extracted from King Street Pictures’ website): ASIAN AMERICANS IN FILM AND TELEVISION  - According to the MPAA, Asians had the highest rate of moviegoing among all ethnic groups in the U.S. in 2016. - The U.S. Asian population grew 72% between 2000 and 2015, the fastest of any ethnic group.  - Asians will be the largest immigrant group in the U.S. by 2055. - In terms of buying power, Asian households earn 36% more than others, and 13.4% of Asian households will earn more than $200,000 in 2019 Despite this, according to a USC Annenberg study of the top 100 films of 2017, only 4.8% featured a character of Asian descent with a speaking role.  Who will tell these stories if we do not? Pusaka’s Eddin Khoo - Malaysia: Wild, Bastardised, Historically Rich, Suffers Lazy Racial Constructs

Eddin Khoo is a journalist, historian, author and poet. But perhaps his biggest contribution to society is his tireless work in protecting Malaysia’s traditional performing arts like the Wayang Kulit and Mak Yong, through his cultural organisation, Pusaka.  He rightly points out that Malaysia is a cosmopolis of races, cultures and traditions with a history older than most countries in the region.  But its importance has been systematically erased in the interests of political self-preservation.  This is his story, in his own words.  (Many thanks to the Asia School of Business for their collaboration with The Do More Podcast, in whose studio this conversation was recorded.
