Welcome to the Movement Professional Podcast, hosted by Dr. Chris Leib. Chris is a doctor of physical therapy, and strength and conditioning professional with nearly 20 years of experience in both fields. In collaboration with various other movement professionals, he discusses the worlds of physical therapy, fitness, and all related fields involved in helping individuals improve their movement capabilities and quality of life. A movement professional refers to any individual working in the health, fitness and wellness fields who deals with improving physical function/performance. MOVEMENT PROFESSIONALS include but are not limited to personal trainers, physical therapists, athletic trainers, yoga/pilates instructors, CrossFit coaches, nurses, physicians, chiropractors, massage therapists, etc. All of these practitioners play vital roles in improving an individual's quality of movement and therefore quality of life. The term MOVEMENT PROFESSIONAL is meant to erase lines drawn in the sand between various professionals working with a common goal of assisting others in reaching their human movement potential. This is not to disregard differences in the educational processes of different professions, but simply to indicate that a collaborative effort is the most effective approach to improving well-being. Upcoming episodes will cover topics spanning all movement professions, including but not limited to, chronic pain, strength and conditioning, nutrition, meditation, sleep, psychology, and behavioral change. Along the way, Chris will discuss practical tools for improving movement performance and quality of life.

    Dr. Frank Mallon: Integrating Physical Therapy and Dentistry

    Welcome back to the Movement Professional podcast. I’m Dr. Chris Leib. This week, Dr. Frank Mallon, owner of Renaissance Physical Therapy, joins me again. Last time we met, Frank and I gave an overview of holistic physical therapy through the lens of the Postural Restoration Institute (PRI). In this episode, we begin a series of discussions taking a deeper dive into some of the more specific elements of this holistic care. The first topic we tackle is the integration of physical therapy and dentistry. Specific topics covered are as follows: 1. How the teeth, temporomandibular joints, and airway affect common persistent pain presentations. 2. The use of dental splints to improve alignment and mechanics throughout the body 3.
