In a lot of ways I really love this podcast, but there is a component of it that is hugely frustrating to me. I love the songs, the way they teach, the games – all of this is just delightful and so sweet and fun. My problem is with the Mr. mouse and Mrs. elephant segment. It’s two friends whose relationship quickly becomes flirtatious and then becomes romantic to the point where they move in together! To have a romantic relationship developing on a show that is geared toward children just feels incredibly inappropriate and bizarre. It’s to the point where I’ve stopped letting my kids listen to that segment, which is such a shame because if it had been handled differently, it would’ve been so much fun. The idea of a segment where these characters use the words we’ve been learning in conversation is really clever, but I wish they would have just been best friends or family members or something. But I feel disturbed by the way they’ve handled it. We started listening from the beginning and we are at least 20 or 30 episodes in, so it’s possible that they drop this segment or do something different with it in the future, as of now it’s close to ruining this podcast for me.
