    Sustainable Filmmaking

Shane Snipes discusses sustainability issues with two documentary filmmakers and a New Orleans film studio. We will answer how can a film have an impact on the future, a community, and make difference in the world? At the top of the hour is One Lucky Elephant's Director Lisa Leeman and Producer Cristina Colissimo. Where does an elephant go after a life in the circus? Sixteen years have passed since circus producer David Balding adopted Flora, the orphaned baby African elephant he lovingly raised as part of his family and made the star of his show. We'll talk about the making of this film and how it changed their ways of thinking. At half past, Taggart Siegel speaks with us about the making of Queen of The Sun: What Are the Bees Telling Us? This film is an in-depth investigation to discover the causes and solutions behind Colony Collapse Disorder; a phenomenon where honeybees vanish from their hives, never to return. Queen of The Sun follows the voices and visions of underrepresented beekeepers, philosophers, and scientists around the world, all struggling for the survival of the bees. Starting at the 60 min mark, we will have the Director of Sustainability, Diane Wheeler, of the LEED Silver Second Line Studiosin New Orleans talking about the first certified sustainable production space in the USA. To reach Silver LEED status, there are hundreds of materials, operations, and grounds requirements. Listen in as we explore what green filmmaking really means.

BP Oil Spill Update - direct from Texas and Energy Education in Kentucky

Today's first guest is Dr. Samuel David Brody, a veteran in the field of coastal sustainability, joined the island community of Texas A&M University at Galveston (TAMUG) in September 2009. Dr. Brody was awarded the George P. Mitchell ’40 Chair in Sustainable Coasts earlier in the year – an honor that he does not take lightly. Dr. Brody acknowledges that the position comes with a great responsibility to the residents, both human and non-human, of the Texas Gulf Coast communities in creating and strengthening coastal sustainability. “I am grateful to George P. Mitchell for this opportunity not only for myself but for the community as well,” said Dr. Brody. The George P. Mitchell ’40 Endowed Chair in Chair in Sustainable Coasts will allow Dr. Brody hands-on opportunities to research, design, recommend and assist in the implementation of methods that will help increase sustainability for the Texas Gulf Coast, from barrier islands to wetlands to sandy beaches." >>> Next up will be Karen Reagor, State Director, Kentucky NEED Project www.need.org Kentucky NEED is the state affiliate of the National Energy Education Development (NEED) Project, a nonprofit education association, dedicated since 1980, to equipping students and teachers with a realistic understanding of the scientific, economic and environmental impacts of energy. >>> Email us your questions for the guests to onair@sustainable1000.com, Tweet us at @sustainable1000, IM on Gtalk @ vannShane or call-in your questions or comments to (347)996-3601.
