I am not an educator, but listening to this - I’m hooked! It’s a must listen.

Joanna and Hailey do a great job of digging deep into the root cause of why public schools have a teacher shortage and why schools are not making the gains that we expect! I love the honesty and discussion about how are schools are not meeting the four areas of real education! Schools must also teach not just academics but also the social emotional and physical behaviors needed for all children to be successful! I also believe we need to do a better job of preparing our teachers at the university level to understand that they too can’t be compliant and be able to stand up for what is right for all Kids! Joanna and Hailey model that through their podcast and in their everyday lives on how to stand up for children on a daily basis!

It doesn’t get more real than episode 8! All the episodes have been a powerful lens into the reality of public education and the latest episode clearly shows us how the system needs to change. It’s time for a major overhaul to bring the expertise of educators to the table. I always think about a root cause of our current systems failures is that new educators are not compensated in a sustainable way and in turn climb the ladder to become administrators to make a more livable wage. Understanding the reason why of course, but knowing that you only have to teach for 3 years to qualify to make the jump from teacher to admin is terrifying. Without a significant amount of experience in the classroom it makes sense that admin are easily marketed to by the testing machine because they don’t have the expertise to bring what is needed to the table. Enter “high quality products” to fill the experience void of administration. It reminds me of my experience in the military. To advance a pay grade you had to serve for a minimum number of years. Meaning, you can’t enlist and command a ship or base in 3 years. It would take a significant number of years experience and training to reach a command position. It is a broken system that needs to change otherwise we will continue to experience what is clearly not working for educators and students.
